So there I was, running my bubble bath, when I got the urge to just go and check on my blog and a few of your posts. Before I knew it, I had sat down on my chair, and got so engrossed, that I forgot about the bath water. Suddenly I remembered, and rushed through to the bathroom just in the nick of time before the water had quite reached the rim and started to trickle down the sides. Phew!! That was a narrow escape.
This isn’t the first time I’ve almost had a disaster because of my blogging addiction. I usually do the ironing next to my desk, so that I can have a quick squiz at my computer screen in between shirts and pillow cases. I have a burnt patch on my ironing board from when I just popped the iron down to read someone’s post, and promptly forgot about it. I’ve had Banana Walnut Muffins that were in the oven for a little too long.
I’ve also had overdone Chocolate Brownies that were rather crisp around the edges. (These aren’t they, as I only photograph my perfect specimens).
I know you probably aren’t going to believe me, but as I was typing this, I smelled burning toast and raced downstairs to rescue my lunch before it totally incinerated. Have you ever had any near disasters because you’ve been focusing on your blog rather than on ‘more important matters’? Do tell.
Definitely a lot more prevalent since the advent of the internet 🙂
Yes, and more prevalent in this house, since I started blogging. 🙂
I think we are cut from the same cloth. I am forever sitting down “just for a minute” and 15 minutes later realizing I left something on the stove, in the oven, or some such thing. Luckily, I’ve only “singed” a couple things but, as you know, it is only a matter of time. I am, however, becoming a master of setting timers. 🙂
Hahaha. Yes, I understand, completely. I’m supposed to be n the shower at the moment. 🙂
I am late to comment on this – but I enjoyed this post. and yes, we have had this happen around our house…. we call it “walk away” food. Like when I did it with some pasta, the next time someone asked, “are you going upstairs – time for some walk – away pasta…” ha! did it with rice, toast…cookies… etc.
and well –
your pics are great – love the nutty brownies most – 🙂
Thanks so much for you visit and comment. Very funny about the “walk away food.” 😀
Oh my. This is hilarious. I wish one of my posts don’t make you fall down the stairs. 😀 No miniature disasters like yours, but the worst for me was being late for work from being so into blogging. 😀
Thanks, Rommel. Glad you enjoyed my confessions, and thanks for yours. Blogging is rather addictive, isn’t it? 😛
Oh yes! I’m often sitting here and then suddenly remember I’ve got something in the oven or have missed an appointment! There are just too many good blogs out there 😀
I agree with you, Dianne. I wish I was twins, so that one of me could sit on the blogs all day, whilst the other one did all the chores. 😀
Oh yes, I usually burn things on the cooker. My children are used to it now, but I do more take aways now hehe. You really get lost while reading blogs and time flies. I had almost a near miss with the bath too. hehe… Glad I am not the only one!
Oh you too, Ute? Thanks for confessing. I feel much better now. 🙂
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does this kind of thing Sylvia! My family dread it when I say ‘just checking my blog, be a few minutes….’ Say no more!
Have a great weekend and no overflowing baths I hope 😉
I do exactly the same, but hubby is very understanding. He calls me ‘Mrs Blogalot’. 🙂
HaHa 🙂
oh dear, more like in trouble with the partner … 🙂
That’s not good, Christine. You should get Stuart to start a blog of his own, and then he’d understand, 🙂
Whahahahaha! I know that too well Sylvia but not telling. You mentioned most of them. 😆 Great shots as well. Those brownies and muffins do look yummy! I also love bubbly baths. 😀
Thanks for almost confessing, Sonel. Glad I’m not the only one who is guilty.. 🙂
hahahaha! Believe me, you’re not so don’t feel bad. 😆
Pay attention to the toast!!
Yes Ma’am! 🙂
lol…I can get carried away blogging myself…which is why I force myself to take it slower…otherwise I’d get way behind on what needs to be done 😉
Yes, some days I have to force myself not to look at my computer. It’s very hard. 🙂
🙂 I hope not 🙂
You must be very disciplined, YC. 🙂
Hee hee 🙂 Not really. I was just can’t multitasking well 🙂
One time recently I was warming the cat’s food in the kitchen downstairs.
(yes I warm up her cold food from the fridge, don’t judge) 🙂 Anyway, I was up on the computer for a while when I smelled something and could not figure out what was cooking. It *almost* smelled good.
Yikes, Phil! I can’t imagine warm cat food smelling even *almost* good. When I die, I want to come back as your pampered cat, but I will expect you not to over-warm my food. 😀
If I’m not going to get any chocolate cheesecake, a banana muffin would be OK. 🙂
Not related to blogging but 25 years ago *someone* left a tap on when we went into town. At the time we only had a 1000 gallon water tank …..when we arrived back it contained 1000 gallons of air….and we had to wait until it rained to get more water.
We’ve never unintentionally left a tap on since.
Ah, you’re so cute, GOF. I really wish I could send you a muffin. 🙂 I feel your pain about the empty water tank. It must have been quite devastating. 😦
I’m so relieved to hear that I’m not the only one!!! I really have to set a time limit or I would be here all day.
Me too. I shouldn’t be here now, but here I am. 🙂
Oh yes, I have often done things like that. 🙂 There haven’t been any total disasters, but lots of near misses!
I think we’re all in the same boat here. The blogs are way too fascinating, aren’t they? 😀
I could spend a whole day just reading blogs, never mind getting round to writing anything myself!
I do that sometimes too. 🙂
Often happens with me, and find really annoying 🙂 But the chocolate definitely make you happy again 😀
Oh yes, chocolate is always happy making. 🙂
Ha ha ha i’ve done something like once or twice? That bath looks divine by the way!
Thanks, Ricari. Yes I love my bath, but now we’ve sold the house, it will soon be someone else’s bath. 😦
It happens all the time – like today, I stopped to add one more line to my post – and was overdue in delivering young R to swimming lesson. Mad dash.
I totally understand, Col. Mad dashes do come with the blogging territory. 🙂
I have soooo been there. It is a bone of contention between me and himself! Himself and I? I set the timer this morning giving myself juuuust enough to get dressed and ready for yoga. but if I lived by myself I’d probably need to go to a clinic for addiction therapy. As it is the arguments keep the addictions in check!
So glad you have a voice of reason living with you. It does help. My hubby is way to tolerant. 🙂
Tolerant? What’s that? Must go look it up.
Hehehe. 😀
This was just an excuse to torture me with foodie pics, wasn’t it? 😉
And I can’t really say I’ve had any near disasters, I just tend to loose track of time when I’m on the blogs
I did think of you when I put the pics in. 🙂
I have come to the decision to set my oven timer for anything food related…only way anything survives
I do that, Jo, but then I ignore it, thinking, “Just a couple of minutes more won’t hurt.” Then I forget about it. 🙂
😀 You’ve made me belly laugh Sylvia. My answer is no- not cause of blogging, but sometimes working from home and getting too absorbed into translation created real disasters, burned rug in the living room from fallen lighted cigarettes, burned lunches…. I hope that looking at my blog will not cause any disaster at your home. Hugs, P.
Oh dear. Do be careful, Paula. We don’t want any disasters to befall you. xx
I have just been alerted to your Bubble Bath Post as I have just put up a new post of my own and it also involved a bubble bath…sort of… and someone asked had I read yours.
I replied no, it was in my email but I hadn’t got round to reading much to day.
I will say nothing… 🙂
I cannot say I am addicted, although I do enjoy and fortunately I am at the computer in any case.
It’s good that you’re supposed to be at the computer. Most times, I’m not, but I am. 🙂
you’re not alone! i’m so addicted to sudoku and I can’t tell you how many burnt toasts that have gone to the trash 🙂
Hehehe. Seems like we’re all at it, Lola. 🙂
Hahaha! I often don’t do things that need doing in favor of reading and writing. But I haven’t started any fires or floods yet.
Well that’s something to be thankful for, Nancy. 🙂
Luckily the memory is slipping so the mishaps get harder to remember… 😯
Maybe old age is a good thing, Gunta. We have much to be grateful for. 🙂
I’ve not had any food disasters, but I do find I get carried away and before I know it on a saturday morning it’s mid-morning and I’ve yet to shower, tidy the house and do the grocery shopping
You sound a lot like me. I don’t have nearly as much time to titivate as I used to. 😦
I have destroyed pans and ruined whole dinners. Oh the horror and shame of it all. “Hello, I’m Pat, and I’m addicted to blogging.” What is step two of recovery?
Bwahahaha. Now the confessions are coming out of the woodwork, Pat. I’m sorry I laughed, but you really tickled my funny-bone. 😀
You confessed first and gave me the courage. Good for our souls. 🙂
We’re all here to help one another, Pat. 🙂
I once tried to make kale chips and ended up with ashes!
Oh dear! What a waste of good Kale. I just looked up the recipe, and it said “From garden to oven in 15 minutes.” It also says “As soon as the kale is rigid and crisp, remove it from the oven. It’ll burn quickly.” Obviously this where you slipped up, Gemma. Actually, these chips look nearly as addictive as blogging. 🙂
I also think my rack was wrong, if you get my drift. 😉
Better luck next time. 🙂
Hi – My name is RoSy & I’m a blogaholic…
Pleased to meet you RoSy. I’m a fellow blogaholic. 🙂
🙂
Mine would be oven connected too. By the way how do we know that those brownies are perfect specimens???
Hehehe. Because my BiL declared them to be perfect. 🙂
Yes!
😀 That was a very definite answer, Julie.
I haven’t burnt any food but definitely have been late for appts. I will be reading away or replying to comments. And then glance at the clock in shock at what time it is and go flying out the door in a panic.
Me too. Sometimes I’m not even dressed to go out, so it’s a mad scramble, as I hate to be late. 🙂
Good to know I am not the only one. 🙂
🙂 I think we bloggers are a different breed.
Blogging can get in the way of life. But more importantly I shall have to check out if my bath is still at the finca in Spain this weekend. It was there when I left on Tuesday, but that looks suspiciously like my bath. Not that I use it as we don’t have a water heater for it, so we use the shower in the other house. But still, it had better not have been stolen and transported to SA.
Well, I’ve had this one for about 10 years, so not guilty. 🙂
Ours was in when we bought the house. Damn nuisance, uses far too much water 😀
I usually use the shower in the other bathroom, except when I want to wallow in bubbles and have my back scrubbed. 🙂
The simplist resolution.go first in bath and read than your blog.Haha
Ah yes, I agree, but what do I do whilst the bath is filling up?
Frothy Friday? You had me scuttling off to check the calendar. It’s still Thursday in the UK, I am pleased to report 🙂
Hahaha…..so it is. 😯 Just shows how time flies when you’re blogging. Now I have an extra day to play with. 🙂
I don’t think I have had any near disaster’s yet, probably because I usually nab one of the kids to finish whatever I had started so I could finish reading/writing a blog post.
You’re so lucky to still have your your youngsters still at home. They do come in so useful at times. 🙂
You need to buy yourself a timer.
With a loud alarm.
And now I want a brownie.
Great idea, El G. I also want a brownie. Maybe I should make a batch for the weekend. 😕
*Holds onto his portable fire extinguisher real good* 😛
Hehehe. Good idea, Andy. 🙂
I trust you! it’s just in case! though I will have one of your yummy brownies :9
😀
Fortunately no mishaps – yet, but am totally addicted to reading blogs as well!!
Regards
GAIL
That’s good, Gail. Have a lovely weekend. 🙂 xx
lol !!!!!!
Hmmm maybe WP should consider putting a warning sing on top saying: “blogging can seriously harm your food!” I’ve also been known to overheat [understatement really] dinner!!! 😉
Yes, I agree that blogging should come with some sort of a warning. 🙂 Sorry about your overheated dinner. We’ve had some rather late dinners. 🙂
Oh more than I want to share…
Come on, bulldog. You’re not shy of us, are you? We’re all in the same boat, for better or worse. 🙂
