If we need to buy just a few groceries, we go for a walk up to the village. So, it’s turn right out of the gate, across the road, and then up the steep hill which is very good for the calf muscles and the heart rate.

- Past the Coral Tree.
- Past the tall banana palms that screen this mansion which overlooks the ocean.
- Pause at the top to catch your breath and congratulate yourself, before carrying on.
- This house with it’s tin roof peeping above the high wall, has no kerb appeal whatsoever, but commands a great view of the ocean.
- This one across the road, is far more attractive, but like all the others, looks as secure as Fort Knox.
- We’re soon into the village, and make our purchases.
- Her’s a lovely scene in the optometrist’s window.
- Looking at all these ladies lined up, you could be forgiven for thinking this was something other than just the local dress boutique.
- Maybe you’d like to buy a friendly giraffe instead?
- Or a lovely work of art to hang on your wall? You really wouldn’t like these prices though.
- Then it’s down the hill to the beach promenade.
- All the things you can and can’t do, are shown here.
- We won’t go on the pier today, as we have to get back home before the butter melts.
Then it’s just a walk through the park and a wave to the monkey on the climbing frame, and we’re back home.
I hope you enjoyed your walk with me. To see more entries for Jo’s challenge, and also join her one her Monday walk this week, just click here.
Beautiful photos of different people enjoying life.
These pictures makes me think we are all one family.
So well caught and the lighthouse and plane.
Thanks so much, Jack. Glad you enjoyed my walk. 🙂
I am not surprised people are enjoying a bit of sun – I would too 🙂
We get sun, most days. 🙂 There are always people on the beach. It seems that no-one works around here. 🙂

What a wonderful post and images ….. of course the lighthouse my favorite – and the I wouldn’t mind a piece of that colorful and bold art. Thanks for sharing your beautiful neighborhood. If I don’t remember wrongly have you sold your house???!!! It must be very hard to leave this behind, but you live in a fantastic neighborhood in US too.
Thanks, Viveka. Yes, we have sold our house and will be moving out in August. I’ll be sad to leave here, but we’ll be back to see family. 🙂
Okay, that is great that you will be going back … looking at your images I would have very difficult to leave, but on the other hand would I missed all 4 seasons that we have. So you’re a busy lady those days .. with packing.
To move is one of the worst things … I know. And unpack is even worst.
I think the busyness is about to take over in a couple of weeks’ time. I’m trying not to think too much about it.
That is the right attitude – enjoy the sea and beach instead. Soon enough you have to deal with it. *smile
Stunning place to go for a walk, looks so warm for midwinter 😀
Yes, but not today. 😦
Awesome capture of the waves. The lighthouse rules are strict. But I do like those art paintings. I need a chill day like them. Ima do that some time soon. Thanks! 😀
Thanks so much, Rommel. Hope you get your chill day soon. 🙂
I definitely enjoyed this walk! 🙂
Thanks, Inga. So did I. 🙂
Great photos. Thoroughly enjoyed my walk with you.
Thanks so much, Indira. 🙂
Loving those pictures of the beach and the lighthouse. Very cool addition to the challenge. 🙂
Thanks so much, TG. 🙂
You have the best visuals when walking! What a fabulous place to live!
Yes, it’s a great place to live, and the weather is gorgeous, even in winter. 🙂
Oh what a beautiful place Sylvia. Your photos capture it so wonderfully, my favourite is the one of the lighthouse, just gorgeous. I’m still fascinated that you find monkeys like that, out and about! Can you imagine if one appeared in a park in England, haha!! Thanks for this walk, wonderful to visit other part of the world like this 😀 xx
Thanks,Sherri. Yes, the lighthouse is such a great feature here. I get a thrill, every time i see it. 🙂 We have monkeys all over the place. Have to keep windows and doors closed most of the time.
That just amazes me about the monkeys!
What’s striking in these pictures: how each house seems to be heavily protected by walls (and who knows, security alarms?).
Sadly, this is the norm here in South Africa. Everyone needs high walls, electric security fencing, panic buttons and burglar alarms, and still they manage to get in. No peace of mind. This is part of the reason why we’re leaving.
so you are leaving South Africa for good? will you live in Florida full-time?
Yes, we’ve sold our property here, and fo back to Florida in September. We will obviously come back to visit family though.
I enjoyed the lovely walk, Sylvia. there’s so much out there that are oftentimes ignored. thanks for paying attention to details and sharing. it’s really a beautiful world! 🙂
Thanks, Lola. Glad you enjoyed my pics. 🙂
Just perfect on days like this, with the sun shining. Shame about the butter … 🙂
Hehehe. We get lots of walks when we don’t have butter to get home in a hurry. 🙂
That was a wonderful walk. I enjoyed it!!
Thanks, YC. Glad you did. 🙂
Gosh you live in a wonderful place, though the security fencing is a bit of a turn-off 😦 but what a lovely walk to the shopping mall (I have spent a fair bit of money in those African shops) and how cool to see the monkey in the playground. Oh, you will miss Africa. But I guess with family still living there you will be back.
Yes, we’ll definitely be back again, but of course it won’t be the same as actually living here.
I have never forgotten living in Marina da Gama nr Cape Town. Beautiful house, wonderful views and a great beach only a mile away. That was 30 years ago and of course it has changed a lot since then, but it still is my dream home.
Sounds idyllic.
Certainly a fun stroll! Tell me, why do those mobile bin-bags even bother to go to the beach?
Yes it was. I feel sorry that these women have to cover themeslves up like that, whilst their husbands and children can frolic around the beach in shorts and T-shirts. Such an imposition!
The women who defend such a ridiculous custom are in the same category as slaves who have become so accustomed to slavery that they don’t want to be free.
Yes, sadly so.
It was a lovely walk today. I’m sitting down now for a rest. 😀
Thanks, Carol. 🙂
enjoyed the walk – and the thumbnails were super fun – but the paths and water – enjoyed this – and ending with the monkey and blue side – just fun!!!!!!
Thanks, Yvette. So happy you enjoyed this. 🙂
Great reportage of your walk
Thanks so much, MaryLou. 🙂
I can just feel those mixed emotions in these shots of leaving this lovely place. How long have you lived here?
Yes, you’re right, Gunta. We’ve lived in this house since 2001.
I just had an afterthought, Ad! Does that monkey live in the playground?
I have no idea. I didn’t ask him, but he had plenty of mates around. I often wonder where they all sleep at night…….not that I’m offering bed and board, you understand. 😆
Do the children chase them off to go on the slide? It’s just incredible to me to see monkeys in town like that, and not in a zoo!
This is going to be another of those posts full of memories for you, isn’t it, Ad?
My favourite shot is ‘grumpy face rock’- it’s superb! The variety on that beach is amazing. The ladies in the black garb made me smile, and the guy with the hats too.
Thank you so much for sharing your world with me. I appreciate it 🙂
I guess you’re right about that, Jo. It still seems not quite real that we’ll be moving away soon. I was saying this to hubby tonight at dinner. Glad you enjoyed walking with me. 🙂
Sounds like an exhilarating walk Sylvia! I like the beachfront shots best, including the grumpy ‘face rock’ 🙂
Thanks, Madhu. Yes that rock did look very grumpy indeed. 🙂
I love all the little details Sylvia, you don’t miss a thing!
Thanks, Gilly. That’s exactly what hubby often says. 😀
Lovely captures of “place!”
Thanks, Cindy. 🙂
I feel the warm, or is that hot, sun as we walk. I’m not sure it gets hot enough here for butter to melt! I want to go down to the pier next time. Can we? Lovely walk and glad you did not have a fall like Jo.
Thanks, Sue. It’s mid winter here, but the temperature was about 27º C. We can definitely go to the pier another day. 🙂
Excellent and let’s forget the butter 🙂
What an idyllic place, except for the grocery shopping. 🙂 Beautiful post Sylvia.
Thanks Ron. Yes, I will miss this place quite a lot.
What a lovely neighbour hood to walk through each day…..the promenade looks perfect for a bare foot evening stroll as the waves wash against the rocks…..delightful 🙂
Evening strolls tend to be out of the question, as it gets dark here about 6pm. 😦
Oh….well maybe a late afternoon stroll then……or early morning of course 🙂
Oh yes, there are plenty of opportunities for strolling. 🙂
Now I know exactly where you live… lovely post…
Thanks, bulldog. No secrets from you then. 🙂
What a fun filled day! awesome! 🙂
Thanks, Andy. Glad you enjoyed walking with me. 🙂
Always a pleasure 🙂
Love the pictures and your sunshine that goes with it.. yes I enjoyed the walk….
Thanks so much, Gerry. 🙂
You definitely have your priorities straight. Nothing like a beach walk ( up the hill) to start the week and get groceries at the same time. This looks like such a family friendly area. 🙂 Happy Monday.
Thanks, Lynne. Yes it is a very family friendly area. Summer all the year round, and always lots of opportunity to get out of the house for a nice long walk. 🙂
Love shots ad. Lovely walk, thank you 🙂
Thanks so much, Hopestar. 🙂
Your neighborhood is gorgeous. Thanks for the lovely walk and the peek into everyday life where you are. 🙂
Thanks, Imelda. Glad you enjoyed our walk.
