Often seen pecking around our backyard, is the White Ibis. He rarely stands still, and always looks as though he’s on a mission.
Sometimes they appear in a large group, but strangely enough, only on a Saturday. It must be a very good day for bugs in the lawn, but I wonder how they know what day of the week it is.
I’ve even had one come knocking on my window. Maybe he was just admiring his reflection, but that beak looks rather wicked, so I pretended I wasn’t in and just shot him through the glass.
Happy December to you all, and have a great week.
How wonderful to have an ibis in your yard.
I love all the birds who come visiting here. π
Fabulous, Ad! I love the close ups you manage to get π
Thanks, Jo. Glad you enjoy my bird pics. π
I always marvel when people of southern climes post photos of birds in and about their property. How wonderful!
Thanks so much, John. We are so fortunate to have these beautiful visitors. π
I wondered where our ibis went to on Saturdays.
Hahaha. That’s so funny, Ron. π
I love the ibis. We get so many on a weekly basis that I have looked for a triangular yellow metal Ibis Crossing sign to put by the mailbox. Looks like they don’t make them, but they have Alligator Crossing signs which luckily I don’t need. π
I haven’t seen either of those signs, Lynne, but if I see an alligator one, I’ll have to buy it. π
Perhaps the lawn gets watered Friday evening or early Saturday? I can’t help but admire your wonderful shots.
Thanks so much, Gunta. I enjoy watching these gorgeous creatures every day. π
Superb shots, Sylvia.
How many species have you photographed so far?
Thanks, Ark. I think I’ve seen over ten different species on or in our lake here, not counting the alligator who puts in an occasional appearance. When we go to the wetland parks, there are many more
Ibis have become a bit of a pest in the city in Brisbane, they scavenge for food and are quite brazen. They are also not the lovely white ones you have, but a dull grey.
Yes, I can well imagine that they must be quite a nuisance if they invade the city streets in their hoards. π―
The bird photos are brilliant…. feed the poor birds that knock…. lol… love it…
Thanks, bulldog. π
You must have a lot of nourishment in your backyard! Feeds an army π! I wonder if the one who knocked on your window also was on mission?! Very nice shots.
Thanks, Tiny. I guess there must be so many tasty insects out there. π
So cute!!! Nice shots!!!
Thanks, RV. π
fantastic! π
Thank you. π
Come on, now. Be brave. Open the door. LOL. π Your friend looks like he would come on in if invited.
Hahaha. I’m sure that if I opened the door, he would take flight. π
That is amazing to have these beautiful birds in your backyard – great pictures!
Yes, we’re so lucky, Meg. π
You have treasures in your backyard. See these birds are such a rewarding.
I absolutely do have treasures. π
That beak of his is incredible! I wouldn’t be opening the door either Sylvia for fear of being pecked senseless!
Yes it does look like a lethal weapon, Sue. I wouldn’t trust him to come any closer. π
Oh, great βBackyardiganβ birds to have! Happy December to you too, Sylvia! π
Thanks so much, Marina. π
I had to read “shot him through the glass” twice.
We have had birds fly into our windows. Nothing broke but the birds don’t live. π¦
One would think they could see the dirty windows.
Ibis…lovely birds.
Hahaha. Glad I made you do a ‘double take’. π We also had a few stunned pigeons when we lived in Johannesburg. I think hubby cleaned the windows too often.
Wow not just Ibis but also a lake shimmering with stars!
I think we have it all here, Gilly. I love it. π
Probably saturdays are party time..? π
Very well captured… π
Thanks, Drake. I hadn’t considered that. You’re probably right. π
I love your backyard!
Thanks, Jude. Me too. π
I too have been having fun shooting these interesting guys. However, the snowy egret is now my favorite…. today anyway π
They are such fun to watch. Glad I’m not the only one who shoots the Ibis. π
myabe he wants to say hello π
beautiful pictures, Syliva! i’d love to have them in my backyard, too π
Perhaps you’re right, Lola. I’m so lucky to have so many beautiful birds here. π
What a beautiful view. Wish we had that view too, intead of space-shuttles π Pawkisses π β€
Thank you. Yes, we love our lake view here, and the birds make it even more special. π
Wow what a lot of birds. Here i can see the Ibis only in de Zoo.
Thanks, Marylou. We are very lucky here. π
Love the ibis!
Me too, Cindy. π
Very cute! An Ibis comes a knocking.. π
Thanks, Adrian. Not your usual visitor. π
Shot him through the glass Sylvia !! .. but I counted you as a bird lover π
He is a very fine bird !
Hehehe. I’m sure you would also have shot him. π
I love watching Ibis. Tomorrow’s post contains an Ibis convention at our villa.
That sounds really interesting, Nancy. I’ll be there. π
Great, I’d love to see them in our backyard! π
Thanks, Dina. π
How fun that they were so close!
Yes, they do come up very close, Kathy, but if they see me, they run away very quickly.
Maybe he just wanted to compliment on your yard π
Now I feel really bad, Andy. I should have opened the door. π
Next time π
π
Cool birdwatching right from your back window!
Thanks, Naomi. I do it all the time. π
Lovely. Lucky you!
Thanks so much, Paula. π
