You may remember that I made Tiramisu as a surprise treat for hubby last week. Some of you asked me to share the recipe if it turned out well, and it did so here it is.
Your main ingredients shown here, are 10 Lady Fingers. (In South Africa we call them Boudoir biscuits), 8 oz (225 g) Marscarpone cheese, good quality instant coffee, some kind of alcohol such as Cognac, Brandy, or as I used because I already had it, Choco Vine which is a delicious Dutch chocolate liqueur. (In the background is my pet lizard who guards my tea box and presides over my cooking.)
You will also need three large eggs, half a cup of castor sugar and two tbsp cocoa powder.
There’s no cooking involved, but you do need to boil the kettle to make one cup of very strong coffee. Leave this to cool for a while.
In a large bowl, combine three egg yolks, a half cup of sugar, only one tbsp of the cooled coffee and two tbsp of your alcohol of choice, and beat for 2-3 minutes. Add the Marscarpone cheese and beat for another 3-5 minutes until smooth and creamy.
In another large bowl, whip the three egg whites with just a pinch of sugar until soft peaks form.
Gently fold egg whites into the Marscarpone mixture.
Lay the lady fingers in the bottom of an 8 inch x 8 inch (20.5cm square) serving dish. Carefully pour the rest of the cooled coffee evenly over the fingers. Spread the Marscarpone mixture on top and sprinkle with 2 tbsp sieved cocoa powder.
Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. This is supposed to serve six, depending on how large a piece you want for yourself. 🙂
We enjoyed this over three days, and I think it’s almost time to make another one.
I know me well enough to know I would be so full of the Brandy, by the time I made the dessert, I couldn’t get near the heat of the oven. You totally had me lured in at Brandy. It may need two bottles, I need something to wash down the dessert. 🙂 just a mental note I’m making.
Hahaha. I’m just imagining you after two bottles of Brandy. Just as well that this dessert needs no oven, or you might ignite. 🙂
LOL on your pet liz.
And – yes – I’ll have a piece please. 😀
Twinkles is an absolute gem.:) You’ll have to wait now until I make this again, as it’s all been eaten.
Ok – I’ll try to be patient as I wait. 😉
I do enjoy a tiramisu. And a boudoir biscuit any time of the day
Oh yes……me too. 😴
This looks and sounds delicious, Sylvia. I like your bejeweled lizard, your gold silverware and peach edged plate. It would be good with iced coffee, I think or would this be too similar and detract from the tiramisu?
Thanks so much, Robin. I think it’s just the light reflection that makes my silverware look gold. Hubby would agree with you about the iced coffee, and it would have to have whipped cream on top. 🙂
Sigh… I spend so much time away from the blogs and on my return I’m once again subjected to your delicious foodie pics
I had to tempt you back somehow. 😜
oh my! that looks delicious! 🙂 i hope Mr L behaved while you’re whipping up this yummy tiramisu! 🙂
Yes it really was yummy. Twinkles never misbehaves. 🙂
golosa he? vorrei lanciarti una sfida ha ha, perché nonostante la grande bomba calorica che è , è anche uno dei miei dolci preferiti e uno di quelli che mi riesce meglio!
ciao, ciao
We can forget about the calories just for a short while. 🙂
Sounds so yummy it is on my to try list stuck on the fridge… Thanks Sylvia
Thanks, Pauline. Hope you try it soon. 🙂
Looks so yummy!
Yes, it sure was. 🙂
So easy and it sounds delicious!!
Thanks, Zirkie. Yes it’s easy peasy. 🙂
One of my favorite desserts;)
Mine too. Kathy. 🙂
my mouth is watering!
😀
I love the lizard tea box!!
Thanks, Kate. Twinkles is really cute and everyone makes a fuss of him. 🙂
Oh, my goodness! It looks delicious!!
Thanks, Aletta. 🙂
I just love Marscarpone cheese.
Me too, and it has less fat than ordinary cream cheese. 🙂
I’ll have the biggest slice please….. yummy!
Hahaha. I’d love you to come and share some dessert with me. 🙂
… you need to make a bigger portion then… hehe
Thanks for the recipe, Sylvia. Very easy to make indeed and one day I will try it, minus the alcohol 🙂 I will be sure to cut myself a big slice… 😀 Aww. Poor Mr Lizard didn’t get any but I don’t think his stomach is cut out for this sweet treat anyway 😀
You’re so welcome, Mabel. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Twinkles doesn’t eat dessert. He’s on diet. 🙂
Thanks for tip, sounds really good! Bye. K
Thanks so much for your visit here, Kamila. 🙂
Tempting Tiramisu! Should I try it or be good:-)
Definitely try it. You only live once. 😀
If you say so:D
*Drools*
😛
Looks fantastic Sylvia! Delicious!
Thanks, Sue. It was. 🙂
Wonderful, I can’t wait to try your recipe! Thanks!
Thanks, Lisa. Hope you enjoy. 🙂
I don’t usually go for sweet deserts, but have to admit this looks almost tempting enough to try. Perhaps it was that chocolate liqueur. 😉
Yes, probably it is the liqueur which looks attractive. 🙂
Not to mention the chocolate bit. 😀
Hehehe. I wouldn’t dream of mentioning the chocolate. 🙄
The Tiramisu looks gorgeous, pity I’m due to have a cholesterol test soon!
Well, make it after you’ve had the test, but before you get the result. 🙂
Oh wow Sylvia, tiramisu is a huge fave of mine! Humm… maybe I could convince Alyce to give this a shot, of course with my help. 😀
That lizard looks like the one I removed from our back screen porch this morning.
Well if you do help to make it, don’t drink all the Cognac. 🙂
I love your pet lizard, Sylvia. What is it’s name?
Great recipe. I really want to try this 😀
Thanks, Dianne. His name is Twinkles, because he has Swarovski crystals along his back. Hope you enjoy the Tiramisu if you make it. 🙂
How beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your sweet recipe, Sylvia. It looks yummy! Is that lizard real?
Hahaha. As if I would have a real live lizard sitting on my tea box! He’s a little Jere trinket box made of pewter, coated with enamel and encrusted with Swarovski crystals. He waved to me one day as hubby and I were walking through our local mall, and begged to come home with me. 😀
Derek and I were looking at it and we thought it was real! 🙂 Maybe we need to schedule appointments with the eye doctor.
Oh dear! 😯 Here’s a close up photo of him. https://anotherday2paradise.wordpress.com/2014/12/13/my-twinkles-for-the-wpc/#comments
Wow! He’s a beauty! Yeah, I guess a real lizard wouldn’t sparkle. 🙂
Looks like a very easy recipe and your photos are delicious!

Thank you. Glad you like the recipe and photos. 🙂
Such a special gift, I am going to try this tomorrow so that there won’t be any bumps when I serve this during the coming holidays. I’m a huge Tiramisu fan.
Thanks, Charlie. I’m sure it will be a big success. 🙂
Wish I could share a bite right now but it’s probably disappeared already!
Long gone! Wait for the next one. 😃
I’ll be sharing this recipe with my daughter. She’s a huge fan of Tiramisu. Nice to have a lizard guarding the kitchen 😉
Thanks, Ingrid. Yes, my lizard is a very good watch dog. 😀
Yum …. where’s Ems!
Yes, it was definitely “Yum.” I’m sure Ems would knock one up in a jiffy. 🙂
She has been known to turn out Tiramisu but she never does anything in a Jiffy does out Ems. Difficult to know if it is OCD or perfectionism. She claims both.
Thanks for the recipe. Here we call the biscuits also boudoirs.
You’re welcome, Marylou. 🙂
I’ve had Choco-Vine! It’s yummy. Love your pet lizard.
Yes it is. Twinkles says “Thank you” for the compliment. 🙂
This looks so good, I think I have no choice but to try it 🙂 Maybe for Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing the recipe, Sylvia.
Thanks, Helen. I hope you do try it. 🙂
Is the lizard optional? 😛
Yes absolutely, and he’s not edible. 🙂
Did you give some to Mr. Lizard? Have a great weekend.
Not a chance that we’re sharing with Mr. Lizard. 🙂
One of the very similar versions to prepare “tiramisu’ “…….I’m going to try yours ASAP ,the only problem for me is that I’m allergic to lactose and won’t be able to taste it!
Oh, that’s really sad. I saw that there are recipes on the internet for gluten and dairy free Tiramisu, using coconut cream instead of cheese. Maybe you could try that instead. 🙂
You’re right. This is an easy recipe and it looks delicious. I will be sure to give it a try.
Here in the States, one can purchase eggs, the shells of which have been pasteurized, eliminating any fear of salmonella. They are the only kind I use when a recipe calls for fresh eggs.
Thanks for the heads up, John. I hadn’t heard of the irradiated eggs, but see one can buy them at Whole Foods.
Oh yum, but I’m not too sure about the raw eggs!
Lyk heerlik!
