I saw this bench in Costa Rica and couldn’t resist a photo. It reminds me of a nursery rhyme which I learned as a very young child.
Three little kittens, they lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
“Oh, mother dear, we sadly fear,
That we have lost our mittens.”
“What! Lost your mittens, you naughty kittens!
Then you shall have no pie!”
“Meow, meow, meow.”
“Then you shall have no pie.”
I felt so sorry for those poor little kittens, and was always so relieved when we got to the second verse.
The three little kittens, they found their mittens,
And they began to cry,
“Oh, mother dear, see here, see here,
For we have found our mittens.”
“Put on your mittens, you silly kittens,
And you shall have some pie.”
“Purr, purr, purr,
Now we can have some pie.”
Do you have any photos of benches with someone or something on them, for Jude’sBench Series #42?
Ha, this has got to be the funniest entry to Jude’s series this week! 🙂 Love the kittens. And the chipmunk (?) and the bunny on the sill as well.
I’m looking everywhere for a chipmunk, but can only see a bunny and a frog on the windowsill. 😀
You sure have raised my awareness of benches! 🙂
Hahaha. It’s amazing just how many benches there are all around us, Lorna. 🙂
🙂 The words seem really rhyme with that picture Sylvia, btw it is really fantastic shot !
Thanks so much, DellaAnna. Glad you liked it. 🙂
so very a mewsing!! Love!
😃
I remember this nursery rhyme as well. Sylvia, but I always wondered why the word ‘pie’ was used and why they wore mittens. These were very bourgeois cats indeed 😉
Hahaha Yes as with many nursery rhymes, it’s absolute nonsense. I do love the term “bourgeois cats.” 😀
So sweet. :). What a fun find.
Thanks, Lisa. 🙂
As a past preschool teacher, I love the happy endings in some nursery rhymes, rare as this happens. Your 3 cats ♡♡♡ on the bench are as diverse as siblings are. Adorable bench post, Sylvia!!! Have a happy week!
Thanks, Robin. I agree that some of the fairy stories and nursery rhymes don’t have such happy endings, but little children do seem to cope with that. 🙂 Wishing you a very happy week too. xx
I did have one child asked me if Jack broke his crown when he fell down the hill, did Jill glue it back together? Such a clever little lad. 🙂
🙂
Liebe Grüße und einen schönen Dienstag Gruß Gislinde
Thank you, Gislinde. Happy Tuesday. 🙂
Aw so cute Sylvia and that rhyme takes me back a very long way to my childhood…
Thanks, Pauline. Happy I brought back memories for you. 🙂
You find the cutest benches Sylvia, I just love this, kitty lover that I am especially 🙂 And thank you for reminding me of this delightful nursery rhyme, I used to be sad thinking that the kittens would have no pie, and then so happy when everything worked out in the end 🙂 xx
Thanks, dear Sherri. We were obviously both very soft-hearted little kids about those sweet little kitties. 🙂
🙂 xx
That’s a cute pic. I guess you would need to move the cats to make space if you want to sit.
Thanks, Constance. Cats do have a habit of parking themselves where one is about to sit. 🙂
Cute kittens! I am also glad they got their pie. 😆
Thanks, Sonel. Me too. 🙂
they are the kind of cats I like, as in they won’t clamber on me. 🙂
😀
so cute! and I love that rhyme that I haven’t heard in forever!
Thanks, Lisa. It’s a cute rhyme. 🙂
Oh, poor little kittens 🙂 They are so cute though.
Hehehe. Yes they are cute, but at least the story has a happy ending. 🙂
Lovely. I had forgotten about that nursery rhyme.
Thanks so much. Glad I could remind you. 🙂
Fantastic.!
Thanks, Marylou. 🙂
Oh, how cute is this!
Thanks, Sue. 🙂
I don’t know which I like better- the rhyme or the kitty cats! Yes, I do! Can I have the black one? 🙂
Thanks, Jo. It’s yours if you take a trip over to Costa Rica and have a few Colón to spare. Only drawback is that I can’t remember whereabouts on the trip this place was. 😕
I only have one colon and I don’t think I can spare it anyway 😦
😆
Ahhhh – so cute!
Thanks, Zirkie. 🙂
Perfect for the challenge!
Thank you. 🙂
Sweet!

Thanks, Lola. Me too. 🙂
So sweet and the nursery rhyme is why we named one of our kittens (many years ago) Mittens!
Well there’s a thing, Jude! What a perfect name for a kitten. 🙂
Great entry for the bench series with a nursery rhyme for a bonus!
Thanks, Gunta. Hope it brought a couple of smiles to your Monday morning. 🙂
A wonderful bit of humor to begin the week.
