A very timely visit for my 6th day of the ‘7 Days of Nature Challenge’. Looking out of my bathroom window yesterday afternoon, I thought I saw a smallish ‘dinosaur’ creeping towards the house. Maybe this is Iggy Jr’s dad or even his granddad. They’re not quite so cute when they get to be 6 feet long, are they? I took this shot through the glass then went outside to have a closer look.
As soon as he spotted me, he started off towards the water at quite a cracking pace.
He’d decided “Enough with the paparazzi already!” and quickly plopped into the lake.
Thanks to Anna of ‘Una Vista Di San Fermo’ for inviting me to do my second round of the ‘7 Days of Nature’ challenge. If you would like to join in, just post a nature photo on seven consecutive days and link to my blog, so I can come over and admire them.
I’m also linking this to Jude’s garden photography challenge, ‘Get a little closer’.
Happy Thursday to you all.
ecco le magie della tua finestra! vorrei rubartela per qualche mese, ha ha
questo mostriciattolo Γ¨ magnificoooooooooooo, aspetto altre sorprese un bacione
Haha. I wish I could send you some of my menagerie to live outside your window, Annalisa. It’s getting a little crowded here, and with mating season soon, who knows how many more? π― xx
You have the most fascinating visitors Sylvia! π xx

I wonder what attracted him towards the house? Shade, warmth, your window?
They all like to ‘play’ out on the stretch of grass between the houses and the lake. I think they love the sun and there’s lots to nibble on. π
Ah…… π They have found a sweet spot.
Seems like it. π
I love the way lizards always look like they’re thinking “If I don’t move, she won’t see me. I will just blend in!”
Hehehe Yes, they do have that look on their faces, don’t they. It’s a bit like a child’s logic. π
Nice of nature to come to you π
Hahaha Seems I have no choice, Amy. π
Now that’s big, but I had a read about them too and was pleased to learn that they don’t weigh too much and he is at maximum size!
Thanks, Gilly. I’m not about to pick one up to test the weight. π
So great to see this from your bathroom. I have not such a great view! It must be lovely every morning to greet all Lizzies out there!
Thanks, Ute. Yes, there’s always ‘someone’ around. π
Wow, Grandpa Iggy has a mighty long tail….I guess there must be lots of food around for all your iguanas?
He does have a very long tail, Gerrie. They just seem to nibble the grass and vegetation around the lake. Thankfully, not my orchid. π
Oh he is quite scary looking, good job he was more frightened of you.
I agree, Pauline. π
You have these creatures living all around you, that’s something!
I have to say that it was quite a surprise, as at our other house which is only a mile away, I hardly saw any at all.
Ha, ha, Mr. Iggy is a bit shy.. I agree if he gets to 6′ or more, he would not be too cute or at least not too good to be close to him.
No, little is cute, big is not so cute. π
A smallish dinosaur, indeed! lol
Haha Exactly so. π
I think you are living in Jurassic Park π
I sometimes thinks so, Ruth. π
Right . . . six feet long, not so cute! I much prefer Iggy Jr., Sylvia.
Me too, Carol. I wish they could all stay little and cute. π
Gorgeous but what is he big!
A bit too big. π
Oh dear those reptiles are really something to look at- but they do make me a tad uncomfortable- as in my skin crawls!!
Hahaha….. Mmmm…… I know what you mean, Lisa. I really hope they don’t multiply too fast, or something may have to be done about them. π
Ah, that bathroom window!!!!! π π xxxx
Hehehe….Exactly, Marina. I never thought it would be so fascinating to look out of. π
I think he is a handsome devil, 6 feet? Not sure how I’d feel about being too close to him, but they aren’t dangerous to humans are they? Maybe cats and small dogs need to be afraid. I once found myself standing very close to a (large) goanna in Australia which gave me a bit of a fright!
I bet it did. No, I think he’s more timid than I am, and shies away from attention. π
I did read when looking them up that you have monitor lizards in Florida which appear to have come from people releasing pets when they get too big, and they do bite! There ought to be better control on ‘exotic pets’. i.e. banned.
Yes, I agree, but it’s a bit late. There is a plague of the creatures by the sound of it. They breed really fast. π

Wonder if such a fellow have a beauty box in it’s privacy before outside walk.? π
Hehehe. It seems strange to think that he probably has never seen his handsome face and striped tail. Maybe I should lend him my mirror. π
There could be two reactions – he would be glad or he would miss an illusion… π
Now, Sylvia~ you make a lovely and nice member of the paparazzi! π
Thank you, Robin. I only ever post flattering photos of my subjects. π
Your idea that this may be a Daddy or Grandpa to Mr. Iggy makes me smile a lot! You have a great way of telling stories about the critters in your neck of the woods, so to speak! π
Thanks, Robin. So glad you enjoy my stories. π
Maybe he was granddad, he looks a little grumpy to us π
I’ve never seen an iguana smile. π
Nope, I don’t think I’d like some of these critters visiting here. Luckily they don’t care for the climate that I love! π
That’s extremely lucky for you. π
Showing his patriarchal pose, he looks gorgeous,….
But 6 feet long….Is too much, really!
Thanks, Anna. I think I prefer the smaller ones too. π
What a beauty he is and how well you captured him.
Thank you. He is very handsome………as iguanas go. π
That’s quite an impressive set of stripes on his tail!
Yes it is. He’s quite impressive altogether. π
a good looking one for sure but at 6 feet, a little too big to be up close. never a dull moment in your part of the world, Sylvia. thanks for sharing π
Thanks, Lola. Not something I would want creeping into my house, for sure. ;?
Handsome!
Thanks, Jill. I’ll tell him, next time he appears. π
LOL!
He’s gorgeous.
Haha Yes, I suppose he would agree with you, Holly. π
Probably has a girl friend.. π
Such a good looking guy is sure to have at least one admirer. π
What beautiful coloring, he/sh is gorgeous
Thanks, Eileen. Glad you like him. π
Happy Thursday lovely lady xx
Thanks, Jo. Same to you. π
Enjoying your parade of Iguanas!
Thanks, Sue. π
He’s a good looking rascal.
I guess he’s quite handsome, as iguanas go. π
Wow, Sylvia, what a beauty. I looked up that this is a green iguana, and not native to Florida. Amazing that you spotted this outside your bathroom window. Your proximity to nature is impressive.
Thanks, Jet. Yes, I read that there are quite a lot of these green iguanas in Florida now, probably because of people keeping baby ones as pets and then releasing them into the wild when they get too big to care for. We have about six around our immediate area, but I’m sure there are more which I don’t see.
I am enjoying your nature photos. Thank you for sharing…. Iggy’s granddad looks awesome….from a safe distance of course.
Thanks so much, Meta. I think he’s quite harmless, but wouldn’t get too close. π
