“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” ~ Elizabeth Stone
Some people deride the commercialisation of Mother’s Day, saying that if you show your love and appreciation every day, then there’s no need for a special ‘Mom’s Day’. For those mothers and their children who live far away from one another and have to make do most of the time with Skype calls and photos on Facebook or Instagram, I believe that this day is really wonderful. Of course I know that my son and daughter love me to bits every day of the year, but on Mother’s Day there’s an extra special bond of cherishing one another. It’s a celebration of being a mother and having a mother. This year as I walked through the store and saw all the lovely Mother’s Day cards on display. I was reminded that this year, I no longer have a mother to send a card to. Maybe the first year is the hardest, or more likely than not I’ll feel the same sadness every year as Mom’s special day comes around. Mom and I had some really precious times together, so I will remember and celebrate the fact that I had this wonderful woman in my life for so long. My darling Mom, although you’re no longer here, I can still feel your love.
“A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.” ~ Unknown
Wishing you all and especially the Moms, a really great Sunday.
I did not know that your Mom had passed on Sylvia. I am so very sorry.
Thank you my friend. She died on September 1st last year.
That was during my break from blogging. I am sorry I wasn’t here, Sylvia.
Nothing to worry about. We bloggers can’t be everywhere all the time. xx ❤
Such a beautiful testimony to your dear mother and the love and bond between you that will always remain. I love this photo of you both dear Sylvia. I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and I’m sorry this is so late…love & hugs to you my dear friend ❤ xoxo

I’m a bit late in posting this but I wanted to reply to your moving post about your mother. The first few years after my mother died, Mother’s Day was very hard .. And time gradually helped … Now I often feel her gentle, wise presence around me … As I’m sure you will too.
Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Gerrie. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and encouragement. xx
What a lovely thought, our mothers are always with us even when they are not. 🙂 I hope you had a nice day.
Thanks so much, Karen. I had a lovely day. 🙂
Lovely sentiments on your Mum. Thank you for sharing. 📮
Thanks for reading, JoHanna. 🙂
Pleasure all mine. 📮
Yes the love never stops!
It never will. 🙂
A heartfelt write for this day called Mother’s Day. Yes, having one day to remind those who take their Mother’s for granted is a good thing. In this techno world where a computers or iPads or iPhones are the only way people are communicating it’s nice to have a face to face visit or actual call.
Seeing your Mom brought back the many memories of posts you had done with her. She was a beautiful woman especially since she created a beautiful daughter.
Belated Mother’s Day greetings, Sylvia. May you have many, many more days of heartfelt memories of your mom.
Isadora 😍
Thank you so much, Issy. Yes she was very loved and much appreciated by both my sister and myself. xx
Blessed memories you both can remember and share. ~~~ : – )
A very touching post Sylvia. You have some lovely photographs to remember your mum by.
Thanks, Adrian. Yes, photographs are very precious, as they can evoke wonderful memories. I remember this was the last time she came to stay with us, and she so enjoyed sitting on that bench looking out to sea.
I can feel emptiness and loneliness in your beautiful text about your mother …
But the comfort a day like this is all the memories we have …
And I know by following your blog, that your mother were , and you are … incredible women …
I belive you inherited a gift from your mother … Living your life to the fulliest …
Hugs to you dear Sylvia … // Maria 🙂
Thanks so much for your empathy, Maria. My mom was indeed a lovely, kind and caring person. All who knew her, loved her. 🙂
I know what you are feeling! She is still with you! lovely photo!

She was I am sure. 🙂

The first year is the most difficult, in my experience ~ Mother’s Day and her birthday, too. It does get easier each year but never really becomes EASY. Now I try to focus on remembering the fun times and the laughter when those days come around. Wishing you peace, Sylvia.
Thank you so much, Carol. Yes, the fun times really were foremost in my thoughts of mom today. 🙂
Beautiful! I am happy you could have your wonderful mom in your life for so long. I hope you had a wonderful day. XX
Thanks, Helen. I did have a lovely day. 🙂
I knew this day would be tough one … so peace to you … and I’m sure your kids and grandchildren did something today to make you smile!
Thanks so much, Frank. Yes, I did have wonderful conversations with both of my children today. They made my day very special indeed.
I was confident they would come through!
🙂
I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, Sylvia. My neighbours got together and gave me a wonderful day knowing I recently lost my mum. There was loads of love, laughs and hugs – I’m hoping the first is the hardest, but we’ll just have to wait and see. This post is a beautiful tribute to your mom xxxx
Ah……how lovely and so thoughtful of your neighbours, Dianne. Yes, we’ll have to wait and see. *hugs* xx
I’ve been thinking of you missing your momma… Hugs!
Thank you so much, Jessica. 🙂
Mother’s day, birthdays and anniversary are always the hardest., hugs Sylvia.
Yes they are, Gilly. Thanks for the hugs. 😘
It would be so hard to walk through the stores at this time, knowing you don’t have her anymore. I love how you concentrate on all the joy and friendship you had together, mother and daughter in such a loving way. I still kept a few of my Mom’s cards, ones she cannot write so well anymore, but yes, I still have her. She wrote on several, “You always were my best friend, Robin.” Those words are to be forever cherished and I am so thankful to have two loving and devoted parents. You and I were blessed. ❤
I didn't get so close to my Dad until he retired from NASA, his relief of stress was gone and he watched women's shows during the late 70's and would tell me stuff about periods and moodiness and how sorry he didn't understand and would argue with me and send me to my room. I know now how stressful parenting is and I laugh out loud at his giving credit to his newly acquired knowledge as he would call them, "My Oprah days." 🙂
yes, I love that you and your mom were also best friends, Robin. Thanks for sharing about your dad. I wish my dad had watched ‘women’s shows’. Maybe he would have been able to relax more and enjoy life. 😀
Oh, I think my Dad was a “rare bird” who was always trying to learn something new, even if it were about the female species! Lol. We don’t need to watch any shows to understand men, they are pretty straightforward! 😉
I was glad you had such a dear, sweet mother. When I started reading your blog, I thought you two were like “two peas in a pod,” Sylvia. ❤
Thanks so much, Robin. My mom was my role model in many ways. 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day, Sylvia.
Thanks so much, Tom. I had a great Mother’s Day. 🙂
Indeed, her place, no one else can take… however, your heart will always be full because of her, as this is her permanent place. A beautiful Sunday to you too, Sylvia. 🙂
Thanks you so much, dear Marina. xx
Wonderful photo, still remain in your mind with love Sylvia. Prachtig!
Thank you so much, DellaAnna. xx
I lost my mum less than a year ago. I find the space that she left is so very sad and sometimes overpowering. Sometimes I still can’t believe she’s gone. But I was very lucky to have a wonderful close relationship with her, with lovely memories. That’s a lovely photo of you and your mum. X
Thanks so much, Liz. We all have to learn to cope with the sadness of losing those we love and who have given us so much love. Hugs to you this Mother’s Day.
It’s a rather bittersweet day for those of us who have ‘lost’ our mom’s! What a lovely picture of the two of you!
Thanks, Gunta. Yes it is, but I did have lovely chats with my two kids, and of course hubby still has his mom at 102. 🙂
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Mother’s Day is special for it is a reminder of all mothers who have come before. There is a connection that spans lifetimes. We celebrate the present; even more, we honour the story of family, of love, of memory, of hope. In doing so, we give breath to the next generation. There is always a nostalgia for what was, but there is also a joy for what comes next… Happy Mother’s Day!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Rebecca. Ah, the nostalgia for the past, interwoven with the joys of the present and our hopes for the future. This is what life is made up of. 🙂 xx
Happy Mother’s Day, Sylvia. Having warm and loving parents is the best. Enjoy all the happy memories you have of your mom, your kids, and your grandkids.
Thanks so much, Nancy. I have had a lovely day. 🙂
Happy Mothers Day to you too – good chance to pause and reflect on the things that are important in life. Lovely photo of you and your Mom.
Thanks so much. Yes, you’re so right. Getting our priorities right is very important.
A very special photograph of you and your Mother Sylvia – sweet memories forever. Thinking of you today.
Thanks so much, Mary. xx
Sending you special hugs and love today Sylvia. So sorry for your loss of your lovely and sweet Mom.
Thanks so much, dear Sue. I’ve had lots of love today. My heart is full. 🙂
Oh S- I did not know you had lost your Mom-I am so sorry!!! Many thoughts to you today. xx
Thanks so much, Cheryl. Yes it was last September that she passed away. xx
xx
Yes, it is strange not to have a mom to send a card to. It leaves one feeling a little untethered. The opening quote is wonderful.
A very good way of putting it, Lulu. Glad you enjoyed the quote. x
Adore this photo….
Two very nice girls, really!
Thanks so much, Anna. 🙂
The first quote says it all Ad. I’m not too fussed about Mother’s Day in relation to myself but they surely tug at your heart strings. Have a lovely day whatever you’re up to xxx
Thanks, Jo. Had a wonderful day, chatting to my kids, going out for a delicious lunch and then walking it off in peaceful nature. 🙂
Very nice!
Thanks, Tom. 🙂
As someone who also no longer has a Mom to call, it is my experience that this day is always tinged with a bit of sadness. However, I take great comfort in the fact that I have so many great memories of my Mom. I think you do as well, and in that I think we are both blessed. Happy Mother’s Day to you.
Thanks so much, Amy. Yes, the memories will never fade, and of course I had my children to chat to and hubby to take me out for lunch. I’m very blessed. 🙂
I’m so glad 🙂
what a beautiful photo. You are so fortunate to have had such a special relationship. Happy mother’s Day to you Sylvia ❤
Yes, I know I am, Lisa. I had a lovely day. 🙂
We carry our mothers with us at all times. They are part of our body, part of our heart. Hugs to you on this Mother’s Day.
Thanks so much for the hugs. Yes, what you say is very true. My mom will always be with me in spirit.
Awww, your words about seeing the greeting cards brings a lump to my throat Sylvia. Thinking of you. Do hard to lose the one who loves us the best.
We’ve never celebrated Mother’s Day much and always say that every day is mother’s day. I cherish the time I’m spending with my mother (and father) now as they are in their late ’80’s and who knows what each day can bring. I know I’ll be devastated when they’re gone. Lovely tribute to your mom and Happy Mother’s Day to you.
Thanks so much, Lisa. Yes it’s so important to make each day count. How fortunate you are to still have both of your parents.
Our mother’s love will always stay with us. I remember this photo of you and your beautiful mother, Sylvia…one of my favorites. ❤
Thanks so much, Jill. Yes, memories of a mother’s love never die. xx
That is a very nice picture of you and your mother. Please have a happy Mother’s Day.
Thanks, YC. Yes, I will. 🙂
