Wildflowers as far as the eye can see was the scene we encountered on our Sunday afternoon amble around the Green Cay Wetlands nature reserve. I think these purple flowers are called Pickerelweed, and they provide both food and shelter for many animals. Bees visit to gather nectar and small fish lurk amongst the foliage which offers protection from larger predators, although I’m sure that Big Al has the occasional wander through to see what he can find.
It was the most perfect spring afternoon and all we could hear was the sound of birds. Totally blissful.

i never think of waterflowers as wild flowers but how lovely they are!

I am playing nearly the weekend, “catch up on my friend’s blogs,” so I enjoyed this beautiful and unusual tall grassy wildflowers! I could imagine feeling quite revived with the water and fresh air here, Sylvia. This was simply lovely, dear! 🙂
It was a really refreshing afternoon, Robin. Everyone we saw was enraptured by the wonders of nature which we saw, and we got to chat to quite a few ‘strangers’ who were all so friendly. I enjoyed it so much. 🙂

I too have never heard of Pickerelweed so thank you for showing me something different. They look lovely; a carpet of blue very much like our bluebells – only yours are a bit more watery 🙂

When I took my walk this morning I was trying to figure out why I felt so peaceful and relaxed. Usually the sound of the ocean does that for me. But I was near no ocean. However, I stopped to realize that I’d been listening to the multitude of calls and songs of birds, which absolutely filled my senses and my soul.
