Wildflowers as far as the eye can see was the scene we encountered on our Sunday afternoon amble around the Green Cay Wetlands nature reserve. I think these purple flowers are called Pickerelweed, and they provide both food and shelter for many animals. Bees visit to gather nectar and small fish lurk amongst the foliage which offers protection from larger predators, although I’m sure that Big Al has the occasional wander through to see what he can find.
It was the most perfect spring afternoon and all we could hear was the sound of birds. Totally blissful.
If you have any wildflower photos, be sure to take them over to Jude’s ‘Wildflower Challenge’. She’ll be more than happy to see them.
Happy Wednesday to you all.
Beautiful Sylvia!
Gorgeous landscape Sylvia! Such beautiful wildflowers
Yes they really were. I was so happy we decided to go there for Mother’s Day afternoon. 🙂
I’ve heard about the great light on Florida before, and now I can see for myself how magical it is.
Thanks, Paula. Yes it is wonderful for nature photography. 🙂

i never think of waterflowers as wild flowers but how lovely they are!
Well, it’s pretty wild out there in the marsh. 🙂
I am playing nearly the weekend, “catch up on my friend’s blogs,” so I enjoyed this beautiful and unusual tall grassy wildflowers! I could imagine feeling quite revived with the water and fresh air here, Sylvia. This was simply lovely, dear! 🙂
It was a really refreshing afternoon, Robin. Everyone we saw was enraptured by the wonders of nature which we saw, and we got to chat to quite a few ‘strangers’ who were all so friendly. I enjoyed it so much. 🙂
Really beautiful wildflowers. Prachtig photo challenge Sylvia!

We have this plant in the pond. I love it and so do the bees.
Thanks, Ark. I thought I’d seen it before. Didn’t realise it was in SA though.
I can hear the bees, the birds and the fish in your wild nature photo 🙂
Thanks so much, Anand. I wonder what the fish were saying. 😕
I too have never heard of Pickerelweed so thank you for showing me something different. They look lovely; a carpet of blue very much like our bluebells – only yours are a bit more watery 🙂
You’re welcome, Jude. I found a few more flowers there for your challenge, so the trip was well worthwhile. 🙂
Oh good, can’t wait to see them.
lovely place, Sylvia. our Mallard Lake is beginning to show some colors now. 🙂
Thanks, Lola. Yes, I will be expecting some lovely spring photos from your lake. 🙂
When I took my walk this morning I was trying to figure out why I felt so peaceful and relaxed. Usually the sound of the ocean does that for me. But I was near no ocean. However, I stopped to realize that I’d been listening to the multitude of calls and songs of birds, which absolutely filled my senses and my soul.
Lovely photo and sentiment here!
Thanks so much, Pam. It’s a wonderful sound to hear. 🙂
I’ve been trying my very best! At least mine won’t have crocs lurking behind them xx
You comment reminded me of a card I received from one of my pupils when I retired. It said, “Thank you Mrs S for always trying your very best.” That’s all we can do, Jo. very commendable indeed. 😀
What a lot of wildflowers.
I know. I thought I didn’t have any wildflowers for the challenge, and then I found these. 🙂
What a lovely place for a wander and I’m delighted to see wildflowers that are new to me, thanks Sylvia!
Oh you would love this place, Gilly. It’s a nature lover’s paradise. 🙂
I suspect I would get eaten alive and not by Mr A!
Strangely enough, I’ve never noticed any biting insects here. Maybe the birds eat them all. 🙂
Quite a sight, Sylvia!
Thanks, Sue. Yes, it’s so beautiful there. 🙂
You’re right…pure bliss, Sylvia!
Thanks, Jill. It was just what I needed. 🙂
Beautiful!
Thanks, Dawn. 🙂
