In my backyard, prehistoric-looking monsters seem to be the mundane order of the day. Looking out of my bathroom window, as I am often wont to do, I would be most surprised if there wasn’t at least one scaly creature creeping up on me.
The more energetic members of the Iggy family like to climb up the tree next to the house and sunbathe on the roof. Can you see that beady eye peering at you through the palm fronds, just right of centre?
The more lethargic ones just dream their day away amongst the wildflowers. (Jude is still looking for wildflowers for her ‘May Garden Photography Challenge’).
I think young Ignatius is dreaming of asking Ignatia for her scaly foot in marriage.
Ignatia, looking very serene,Β is probably dreaming of a good-looking prince who after only one kiss will turn into a handsome Iguana.
Poor Basil the Basilisk is a loner and I don’t think he’ll ever find true love, even though he has the look of a bank manager and could be quite a good catch for some young Lizzie.
How’s your Monday going? If you have any ‘Mundane’ photos which show some kind of beauty, you can pop them over to Jithin at Trablogger for his ‘Mundane Monday Challenge’.
Wishing you all a splendid week, and a very happy and mindful Memorial Day to all my American friends.

Thanks, Jithin. π
Are you having an over populations of iguanas?
They do have one on Boca Grande. It’s near Englewood. We haven’t had a problem. I’ve seen only two. I’m petrified of them as they are very aggressive. They do photograph very well. Nice posts ….
Yes we really do have quite a lot here. They seem to have been very busy during the breeding season. π³
The residents of Boca Grande have hired trappers to diminish the population. The little creatures were coming into homes. They are being released down in the Everglades. Hope they stay outside.
~~~ : – O
Oh yes, me too. π¬
Having a personal zoo at the backyard! How cool is that. And finding very mundane pre historic monsters as mode for a photoshoot!
Thanks, Jithin. Ther is always someone waiting to have their photo taken. π
Yes, that is a wonderful way to live(as a photographer)! π
I was in FL over Memorial week and saw my first iguana. I must say they look quite cute in ‘person’ than on media. It was also sitting quietly in one guy’s hands – I could not believe it. You really have exotic creatures in your neck of the woods.
Yes, I do. I don’t think I could bring myself to actually hold one though………..well maybe just a very small one, if it promised not to wriggle. π
I love this well illustrated story, Sylvia! It made me smile big time. Basil, the Bank manager looks like a very business-like suitor π
Thanks so much, Helen. I think Basil would be a very steady husband. He doesn’t look flighty at all. π
Laughing!
they’re fun and i’m glad you’re giving them attention, Sylvia! love your photographs π
Thanks so much, Lola. I guess they are fun. Their faces are quite comical. π
Mundane is definitely not a word I would use to describe your blog photos Sylvia…it’s amazing the wildlife you have in your backyard! The one of ‘Iggy’ peering through the bushes looks quite prehistoric…yes, I saw his beady eye after taking a couple of looks π xx
Thanks, Sherri. I think you’re right about my life not being mundane. To get to the laundry or garage, I now have to negotiate a whole obstacle course of scaffolding, tools and ladders. π―
Yikes…hopefully for not too much longer…I’m watching this space Sylvia, but not half as much as you are!! I really admire you though, I know it’s not easy – very stressful I would imagine – joking aside… xx
I’m mostly quite calm about it, but admit that I do ‘lose it’ occasionally. π¬ xx
Not surprised…I definitely would ! xx
I always feel guilty afterwards, as hubby is working so hard. He’s very forgiving though. π xx
π xx
I like your photos of Basil and Ignatius. I don’t think I’d call them mundane, though. I’d be thrilled to see them. Of course, you get to see them every time you look out of the window, so I know it’s a bit different for you! π
Thanks, Bun. Yes, there are always a few of them lounging around on the grass. They seem to be taking over. π
The Reptilians? Hey, maybe that crazy conspiracy theory is true after all!
Maybe it is. Is David Icke still going strong? π
I just had a quick check. His website is still up and was last updated earlier today, so he seems pretty active. I just caught a newspaper headline saying he now believes the moon is an abandoned spaceship left by aliens. It’s impossible to know how much of this he really believes. π
Hahaha I just decided to follow him on Twitter. He’s so crazy. π
The cast of your wild neighbors is growing. I like the names you have come up with, so clever! Sylvia, busy and sad to have a few catch up days. Ignatius, Ignatia, Basil and maybe some lucky lizard/iguana named Lizzie will match up with Basil despite his trying to be aloof! Ha ha ha!
Thanks, Robin. Glad you enjoy the ongoing saga of my wild neighbours. π
Fantastic iguana photos, Sylvia. Fun to see the eye through the greenery. And a treat to see a basilisk lizard too.
Thanks, Jet. Yes it always makes my day when i see dear Basil. π
Starts my week with a chuckle to see all your crazy scaly creatures crawling around… π
Thanks, Pauline. I’m happy to be able to amuse you. π
Wow Sylvia .. I’d be a bit freaked out if I saw those. Amazing captures
Thanks, Kathy. I’m already beginning to feel a bit “freaked out. ” π
I can only imagine π³
Have to agree with Sue….you seem to have a veritable zoo in your back garden. And names for every creature that inhabits it. Hardly mundane Sylvia! π
Hehehe Well what can I say, Madhu? It does seem to be that they are multiplying rather fast. π
Sylvia it is as if you have the Galapagos Islands in your backyard!
Yes, I know. I wonder how long before they outnumber us humans living here. Probably they do already. π―
I can’t imagine that any of your days of mundane!!! Everywhere you go, adventure follows!!
Well you may be right, Rebecca. Never a dull moment really. π
Those iguanas are extraordinary. And you captured them beautifully in these images.
Thanks so much, Otto.
They do add interest to all the green Sylvia! They are growing on me! π
Thanks, Lisa. Yes, they’ve grown on me too. π
You make the mundane live an izzy soap opera life. Who knew the inner secrets that lay behind the calm “banker” exterior of the izzy world? The drama of the potential engagement, the broken hearted reject, they capture our wildest imaginations!
Hehehe So glad you find the lives of the Iggy’s full of fascinating intrigue, Marsha. I guess we really have no inkling of what it’s really like to live and love as an Iguana. π
Well it’s a great fantasy! I’m not sure she’d ever go for the ruby studded diamond ring. πππ
No, probably the emerald would tone much better. π
Lol
You are soooo lucky to be able to see these creatures daily. I love the close-up of the foot. And I “feel” Basil.
Thanks, Badfish. Yes, I know how fortunate I am. My neighbours however aren’t nearly as grateful to have them around. π
If I would try really hard I could make a piece of music out of your scaly story, with male and felmale voice, haha. Have a nice Tuesday, Sylvia… π
I’m sure you could. That would be so awesome……….maybe. π
WunderschΓΆn liebe GrΓΌΓe und einen schΓΆnen Tag eine Umarmung Gislinde
Nothing mundane about these gorgeous beauties Sylvia and such stunning photos of them. π β₯
Thanks so much as always for your lovely comment, Sonel. π xx
Glad to see you catching up on all the gossip in your neighborhood. What a crowd and there for the viewing right out your bathroom window! You won’t believe it, but the slithery fingers of young Ignatius made me think of your lovely lady of the golden fingernails.
Hehehe Yes, I do see a slight resemblance, Gunta. Thanks for reminding me about those fingernails……….I think. π
You do seem to have a LOT of the scaly things in your new neighbourhood. No more herons? Love the green fingers though; I can just about see a diamond tring on there and I do hope poor Basil finds love soon.
I saw a Great Blue Heron today, but he flew away before I could take a photo. π¦
A shy one… wait until he hears about the fame (if not fortune) to be had by your camera.
Word can’t have spread yet, but give it time. π
I love that long green finger, Sylvia – a ring would look so nice on it (maybe a ruby to contrast the colours) π
O yes, a ruby and diamond cluster would be just perfect. π
Poor Basil, the looks of a bank manager and a solitary life as well, I hope a mate moves in to the neighbourhood.
I know. π¦ Every time i see him, I feel sorry for him. He looks so………studious and pensive. He needs a bluestocking, methinks. π
They’re amazing creatures. Just as long as they stay out of the house, it will be fine. I don’t want to see Iggy and his friends supervising the reno!
Me neither! Hubby tells me that once he accidentally left the door open and one of the smaller ones was sitting there looking at him. π―
That would freak me out!
I think I would have screamed if I’d been there. The poor creature would have probably got the fright of its life. π
Ha ha! It wouldn’t come back again.
You’re right, Sylvia. I think there’s a wedding in their future!
Hehehe A nice diamond ring would look well on that long green finger. π
Happy Monday, Sylvia! I suppose if you see iguanas often enough they could become mundane… but not for me! I love them!
Thanks, Tom. I don’t think they will ever become really mundane to me either. I just love seeing them. Their faces are really cute. π
I love their ‘timeless’ look!
I think this would take some getting used to!
I think you would be surprised how soon one adapts to seeing such visitors. π
I’ll just have to take your word for it. π
Hahaha
Still can’t get my head round your “mundane”! I would say – amazing.
If you see them every day as I do, they become quite humdrum. I still can’t resist taking photos, though. Their faces are so expressive. π
Fabulous shots!
Thanks, Fi.
Wild America . . . overflowing with transplanted iguanas.
Great pics . . . my favorite is still the WICKED green fingers.
One can only wonder how many of these creatures there are. Glad they don’t all congregate in my backyard. π Yes, the “wicked green fingers” are the stuff nightmares are made of. π―
those are a lot of iggys sylvia… i think i could tolerate the iguanas but not snakes.. just take care when taking photos.
Yes, I think I have more than my fair share. We’ve only seen a couple of harmless snakes so far thank goodness. I take my photos from a safe distance. π
Great shots, Sylvia! You certainly have a lot of critters to provide entertainment. π
Thanks, Jill. Yes, never a dull moment here. π
Grillerige goggas
Haha Love that Afrikaans phrase. π
Those are in your YARD???
In our yard, up our trees, and on our roof. π
You have so many Iggy friends and few kinds. I am not sure I would feel comfortable with them around as many π
I fine with them as long as they stay outside the house. π
Your world looks the furthest thing from mundane to me. Isn’t it funny that for each of us, the mundane is different? I grew to think China was mundane, as well as Oman, although I certainly didn’t feel that way when I first arrived in those places! π
Haha Yes, we all have very different interpretations of mundane. I guess it’s all a matter of what we get used to. When I lived in South Africa, seeing the ocean from my window became mundane. I never dreamed that within a few years I’d be living here in Florida, surrounded by scaly critters. π
I think everything becomes mundane after constant exposure, doesn’t it? It’s a matter of being inspired to see regular things in a fresh new way! π
I love those ET fingers Sylvia! π
Yes, aren’t they bizarre in the extreme? I don’t think I could ever bring myself to reach out and touch them, even if they would let me. π
Lovely shots…..
Thanks so much, Vikey. π
I just love the names!!! You too have a wonderful week, my dear Sylvia! [with your neighbors, it’s guaranteed!] π xx
Haha I sure will, Marina. I love the wonders of nature that surround me. π xx
Here we can only see them in the Zoo.They have nice colors
Thanks, Marylou. I sometimes think I live in the middle of a zoo. π
That looong finger on Ms. Iguana is definitely hinting the words ” Anytime now guys!” lol! quite the look too!
Hehehe Yes I think you’re right, Andy. I’ll keep a lookout for the ring. π
And a fairy tale too lol
I still can’t believe that these creatures can be so easily at hand , nowadays
Did I tell you that through your blog I kind of fell in love with them?…..
Hahaha Thanks, Anna. Your comment really made me chuckle. I have to confess that I am also quite enamoured of them. Who would ever have thought it possible? π―
