Paula’s Thursday’s Special theme is ‘Descent’, and I immediately thought of this photo, taken as we were leaving the Marriott’s Cabiria rooftop restaurant in Rome. The elevator was crowded and we didn’t want to join the queue, so we decided to try the rather impressive spiral staircase route instead. I counted 186 steps on my descent.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Our neighbours across the street have very kindly invited us for dinner tonight. They seem like a very sweet couple, and I’m so looking forward to getting to know them better.

love it very much my type of shot
Thanks, Scott. That’s quite a compliment. π
The beautiful red carpeted and grand staircase was so impressive, Sylvia. What a lovely way to illustrate, “descent.” π
Thanks, Robin. I think it was quite new, as it was so nice and clean. π
With that stair, I’d definitely choose it over elevator every time ….. I have to go down. π
I’m sure you would, Rommel. I think you could also run up it in a jiffy. π
Great descent picture, Sylvia π
Thanks, Dianne. π
Perfect for the challenge – image how tired you’d be running up and down all those stairs!
It depends how many times I did it, Mary. π
Great shot of the stairs, looks like velvet carpets? Italy doesn’t do lifts very well…. I’m sure it worked in our favour, because we always had so many stairs to climb after we had eaten a lovely Italian meal!
Thanks, Gerrie. I’m all for a bit of exercise after too good a meal. π
That is truly a fabulous photo Sylvia π
Thanks so much. It seemed perfect for the challenge. π
That’s a gorgeous red carpeted descent! Enjoy your dinner Sylvia. We have been invited for food trials at a new English Tea Room! π
Thanks, Madhu. We had a really enjoyable evening. Your invitation sounds delicious. π
What a great photo, Sylvia. Initially, I thought it was a series of archways!
Thanks, Tom. π
I hope the dinner went well
We had a delightful evening. π
Impressive photo and staircase! Hope you en joyed the outing to your neighbors.
Thanks so much. Yes, we had a great evening. π
Amazing architecture, very impressive. Fantastic photo Sylvia!
Thanks so much. Glad you liked it. π
I am glad that it is going down rather up 186 steps… You have good concentration to be able to count the steps.
Haha I always count steps. It’s a habit of mine. π
What a fantastic architecture.
What amazing stairs – staircase Sylvia! I am dizzy looking down. So perfect for the challenge
Thanks, Lisa. π
What a fabulous descent Sylvia π
Thanks, VAL. π
I was sure you’d be paragliding, or some such, Ad, instead of sliding down the banister! π Happy weekend!
Yikes! I consider myself in good shape, but my fear of heights would prevent me from taking those stairs. Have a great evening with your neighbors, Sylvia!
Thanks, Jill. Looking over the banister wouldn’t be for you.. It was a very long way down. π
an amazing colour, I thought it would be in Morocco.
Haha Yes, it would be less surprising. π
Beautiful, but I am not sure I would want to climb them.
We were taken up in the elevator, but I think it would have done us good to walk both ways, after that meal. π
Sjoe dis mooi!
I agree. π
Only 186?
Looks like twice that number.
Beautiful descent.
Yes, it does look like more. I hope I counted right. π
They look like shallow steps, quite good fun to descend?
Yes, and the carpet was lovely and soft too. π
Incredible staircase it looks as if it goes on forever. Have a lovely evening with your neighbour’s.
Thanks so much, Susan. I’m sure we will. π
A very beautiful descend foto. My mind takes the cue and descends, descends, decends ….
awake me from my meditation in 2 hours, please…
yes, very impressive. great photo, Sylvia! have a great weekend π
Thanks, Lola. π
Beautiful structure…. πΉπΉ
Yes it is, Vikey. Thank you for your comment. π

Rome is like no other city I’ve visited, and yes, that dinner certainly needed some exercise afterwards. π

What an elegant staircase! I bet the rooftop view was impressive too. Enjoy your dinner Sylvia. Keep well and see you soon. xx
Thanks, Paula. Yes the view was very impressive, as was the food and the musical entertainment.
π Enjoy your dinner today too. ( I’m sorry the link did not work today, maybe it will next time.)
It used to be so easy to just press that link button, and now it just doesn’t work. π¦ xx
I don’t know if I can do anything about that.
Haha I’m sure not. It will no doubt sort itself out in time. xx
π
Roma caput mondi…in latino : Roma a capo del mondo! π
Absolutely. π
Impressive…
Love this!
Thanks, Anna. π
That is the most beautiful staircase I’ve ever seen!
Thanks, Jessica. Yes it was for me too.
I’d love to see all your Rome photos. π
Maybe not all of them. π How about this one just for a laugh? https://adinparadise.wordpress.com/2013/05/29/wordless-wednesday-the-naked-chef/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true
Oh my gosh!!!! That’s HILARIOUS!!!! π Needed that laugh. I’m 4 days into a headache…
Glad you enjoyed my bit of fun, Jessica. So sorry about your headache. Are you drinking plenty of water? I find that helps. xx
Probably not enough… I’ll try that, thank you.
I try not to stare down the stair,
For things then happen to my hair,
It stands up on end,
If my head do I bend,
I believe I must sit in a chair.
Nice photograph. And that is a lot of stairs.
Wow! Your really awful rhyme rivals those of the Col. π
I think his are much more worserer and involve mealies, or at least a lot of corn.
π
I love stairs that spiral and this one even more! π
It was rather amazing. π
I bet! beautiful too π
Yes, quite the Red Carpet experience. π
lol! indeed!
Wow Sylvia, I can’t think of a more beautiful descent. Fantastic photo!
Thanks, Jet. I can’t imagine how long it must have raken to carpet all these steps. π
