The Duck family looked so serene as they came gliding past my backyard. They always make it look so effortless, but then I remembered what Michael Caine once said: “Be like a duck; calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath.”
The dinner/dance last night was really wonderful. Delicious food, scintillating company, and great music to dance to.
Happy Sunday to you all.
Ducks really are a marvel, aren’t they? Aside from the “effortless” swimming, it’s a wonder those short little wings can get that body up into the air. Yet they do and can carry the birds far distances.
I know. They do look comical when they take off, as do the cormorants. I’ve had many a giggle, watching them. 🙂
any interesting pics from the dance?
No, didn’t even take my phone with me. I guess I could have gotten some photos of the amazing woman who played every type of wind instrument you could think of. She looked a bit like Dolly Parton, so you can use your imagination. 🙂
Just beautiful!
Yes, they are the sweetest little creatures. 🙂
Fantastic capture Sylvia!
Thanks so much. 😘
Great picture and very wise advice from Mr Caine.
Thanks, Lisa. 🙂
glad you had a wonderful evening, Sylvia 🙂 MC’s quote is so true, ducks glide so beautifully. 🙂
Thanks, Lola. Glad you enjoyed the quote. 🙂
So glad you had a wonderful evening Sylvia!
Thanks, Adrian. 🙂
Swans are just the same: regal and stately above water, massive effort below it.
Yes, I guess they are. How strange. 🙂
Our heart is punding all the time, in our chest. Let us give it thanks today at this Monday, that it allows us to live calmly at the surface.
That’s for sure. Enjoy your week, Anand.
I love watching the ducks swim nearby on our river. A lovely image Sylvia and glad to hear it was a great evening.
Thanks so much, Sue.
I liked your Michael Caine quote. I am grateful to know good people may make things “look easy” but usually they are “paddling like crazy!” 😀 The water and ducks were beautiful, Sylvia. My three grandies who slept over got up, dressed, went with me to feed three mallards (before going to eat breakfast) and I wondered out loud, “Wonder why the girl ducks aren’t here?” Marley, age 7, without hesitation said, “Maybe they like to sleep in, Nana!” 🙂
Oh, how cute! What fun you must have with your three little grandies. 🙂
Happy you had a great dinner dance evening. I bet you guys are great dancers. Ours was a quiet movie night, just us and Dylan 🙂
Thanks, Helen. No we aren’t great dancers at all, but we mingled in quite well. The group were really good musicians and very versatile.
I spent most of my teaching life feeling like a duck! Great that you had a good night, I don’t think you can beat good food, good company and definitely good music!
I think I know exactly what you mean. Teaching can be very stressful.
Love ducks smimming very tranquil around
Thanks, Marylou.
Tranquil shot, Sylvia…and then I read the quote and think again. 😀
Haha. Yes, things aren’t always what they seem. 😃
They look almost indifferent, I’d say , in spite of all their work under the surface….
Wonderful pic!
Thanks, Anna. 😘😄
Watching a duck dive down to try retrieve something with its legs waddling in the air always gives me a good laugh 😄
Me too. 😅
Ducks are quacking on our lagoon as I read this. Glad you had fun last night.
How lovely. Ducks are so cute.
Yes it is odd how tranquil they look when they’re manic just under the surface! Glad you had a nice evening.
Haha Yes it is. Maybe we’re sometimes like that too. Like me with the house renovations. 😅
Perfectly composed duck clan!
Yes they are. 😃
Looks like the ducks are having a relaxing afternoon. 🙂
I always enjoy seeing them. 😄
For some reason I really like the quote… This may not appear as it seems. Such a lovely picture of the duck family in the sun.
Thanks, YC. Yes, we don’t always know what’s going on beneath the surface, do we? 🙂
They look so calm and peaceful
Thank you for linking up
Yes they do, Darren. Thanks for the Sunday challenge. 🙂
Very tranquil, Sylvia, lovely!
Thanks, Tom. 🙂
Glad you had a good time last evening, Sylvia!
Thanks, Sue. Yes, it was wonderful. 🙂
😀
Cool!
😀
Great quote …. peacefuk photograph. They do look like they are gliding across the lake. Hope you’re having a GREAT Sunday.
Issy 😎
Thanks, Issy. My day is going fine, and the kitchen cupboards are going together. 🙂
I think I meant to say peaceful. I think the word that’s on there looks terrible.
Anyway, YAY … for the cupboards. I just had a walk-in tun installed. The hammering and dust everywhere had me unnerved. Hope uou can manage some outings to avoid the noise. It will all be worth it when it’s all done. I’m very happy for you. 😍
Beautiful image, Sylvia 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend 🙂
Thanks, Sreejith. My weekend is going well. 🙂
