Feathers On Friday: Woody Stalks Past My Window

Hi everyone. Thought I’d better put in an appearance after being absent for a couple of days. Woody Wood Stork also showed up as I was looking out my bathroom window. What a face! Don’t you think he would be just perfect for a part in a horror movie. That beak would really be something to reckon with too. It must be really tough being a fish around here.

Our furniture and other stuff is now at our house., and we’ve placed some of it. The mirrors, pictures and boxes of ornaments etc., which are stacked in one of the bedrooms, will just have to wait until we get back from overseas. Right now I must rather turn my attention to packing cases for our six week trip. It’s all go here; never a dull moment.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

B&W Sunday Layers: Sushi-to-go

Paula’s B&W Sunday Challenge this week, asks for ‘Layers’.

The Osprey who flies over our lake, snagged himself a really good sushi breakfast which he took back to the layers of tall trees to finish off.  No sharing for him!

This is the beginning of a very busy and exciting week for hubby and I. I’ll pop in to visit you when I can. Hope your week is a good one.

My Sunday Photo: A Study In Turquoise

Yesterday,  Great Egret was looking for a lunch date with a fish or two, as he stealthily stalked his way along the water’s edge. Happily for me,  my camera was in its usual place on my bathroom windowsill.

This morning, I cooked hubby his first bacon and egg breakfast since we moved here. He said that it was worth all the effort of building the new kitchen. This coming week is going to be quite exciting as we’ve booked a removal company on Wednesday, to bring the rest of our furniture out of storage.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday.

Floral Friday Fotos: My Easy Care Orchid

Hubby bought this Vanda orchid for me a couple of years ago. Ir was in a plastic tube pot and had no soil. I was fascinated to see how it flowered so beautifully without any growing medium. When it finished flowering, it was quite neglected for a while, until hubby brought it over to the new house and tied it to a palm tree in the front garden. Since then it’s flowered profusely, twice in five months.

I mist it occasionally and feed the roots if I remember, which isn’t very often, but it seems to bear no grudges at all.  This was how it looked in April.

Now it’s in full bloom again. I’m so happy that it’s flowering before we go away for six weeks, as I would hate to miss seeing it. It’s such a beautiful sight as we come into our driveway.

I’m also linking this post to Jude’s ‘September Flower Portrait’ Garden Challenge.

Wishing you all a very happy weekend. Ours won’t be at all relaxing, but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it nevertheless.

The Boss is also back

Nice to see that Mr. GBH is back, presiding over his lake subjects. Who would argue with that beak? I read that the Great Blue Heron is the Native American symbol of strength, wisdom and patience. Looking at his elegant profile here, it doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Happy Thursday to you all. I’m taking time off today to have lunch with a couple of special girlfriends.

One Liner Wednesday: Ali Baba is back!

Imagine my delight yesterday afternoon, when pausing for a moment in my unpacking and repacking-for-charity frenzy, I looked out of the window and saw Ali Baba cruising by. He’s not as big as dear Mr. A, but I’m sure he’s still growing.

After all, what use is a stretch of water bordering one’s Florida property, if it doesn’t have at least one ‘gator? I shall give him instructions to guard our place whilst we’re away overseas.

Happy Wednesday to you all.

A Happy Reunion

I’ve been unpacking boxes for days, some from our last house, but mostly from our house we sold in South Africa two years ago. Everything was packed up and kept in a warehouse at Durban docks until we had it shipped over late last year. Since then, all the boxes have been in a storage unit waiting for the day when all the house renovations were completed. The furniture is pile ceiling-high in the two spare bedrooms. So far I’ve filled ten packing boxes with surplus items which are going on Wednesday for the ‘Breast Cancer’ pickup.  We did donate, sell, and also gave to friends and family, such a lot of things before we left, but it’s amazing how much stuff one accumulates over the years. I’ve decided that the most useful inventions ever, have to be cupboards and drawers. Whatever would we do without them?

I had a most happy reunion with my pets, who survived their incarceration and journey across the ocean, wrapped in paper inside a cardboard box. Fido and Felix have been in our family for over twenty years. Our son bought us the dog, and then hubby and I decided that Fido needed a cat for company. They’re the easiest pets we ever had, no feeding or cleaning up after them, and all they needed when I unwrapped them was a bit of a polish.

Fido doesn’t look too happy, but I’ve never seen him smile in over twenty years. Felix spends all his time asleep, and I guess nothing’s going to change.

I managed to visit a few of you over the weekend, but this week I’m going to be really busy organising things here. Hubby is busy painting the dining room, and then there’s still his study to do. We’ve booked our flights over to South Africa to see family and friends, and will be leaving during the first week in October for about six weeks. So exciting, except for the thought of packing cases.

Wishing you all a great week. I’ll pop in when I get a chance.

A Love Story Iggy Style

Said Iggy 1 to Iggy 2

“You know I really fancy you.”

dscn9988

“I’m not so sure that you’re the one,”

Said Iggy 2 to Iggy 1.

dscn9990

“There is no rush to find a mate,

My mom told me it’s best to wait.”

dscn9997

“Oh, you’re just green behind the ears”

Said Iggy 1 almost in tears.

dscn9996

“I’m going to sit up on my rock.

Your heartlessness leaves me in shock.”

dscn9983

“If you should change your mind, mon cher,

Just say the word and I’ll be there. “

Just a bit of fun in between unpacking boxes. Those Iggys are so entertaining to watch. Hope your Thursday is going well.

On Golden Pond With Palms

What a glorious Florida sunset we had two nights ago. I took this photo with my iPhone through the car window, as we drove into our estate.

Today, hubby is installing the dishwasher and refrigerator. We just came back from the lock-up with a dozen big boxes of kitchen stuff, so if you don’t see me around, you’ll know what I’m doing.

Happy Wednesday to you all.
