Floral Friday Fotos: My Easy Care Orchid

Hubby bought this Vanda orchid for me a couple of years ago. Ir was in a plastic tube pot and had no soil. I was fascinated to see how it flowered so beautifully without any growing medium. When it finished flowering, it was quite neglected for a while, until hubby brought it over to the new house and tied it to a palm tree in the front garden. Since then it’s flowered profusely, twice in five months.

I mist it occasionally and feed the roots if I remember, which isn’t very often, but it seems to bear no grudges at all.Β  This was how it looked in April.

Now it’s in full bloom again. I’m so happy that it’s flowering before we go away for six weeks, as I would hate to miss seeing it. It’s such a beautiful sight as we come into our driveway.

I’m also linking this post to Jude’s ‘September Flower Portrait’ Garden Challenge.

Wishing you all a very happy weekend. Ours won’t be at all relaxing, but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it nevertheless.

  1. Orchids are far stronger than most people think. You certainly are in the right climate for this vanda. It’s gorgeous! I’ve kept phalaenopsis orchids in prior homes but this one gets too little light for them to thrive. Drat!

    • Yes they are quite hardy outside, as long as they have the right climate. There are now 12 huge flowers on this one. I wish I could take it with me on holiday, as it may not look as good by the time I return home.

  2. Wow! Stunning orchid and it’s great how it found the right spot where it is happy and blooming.
Many thanks for joining the Floral Friday Fotos meme, I look forward to your next contribution.

  3. I am sure it may turn brown under my care, Sylvia. You say, “easy care” and I respond, “challenging!” πŸ˜€
I am excited how you could just cart this one around, if I am thinking of the one which used to be in your old house’s yard. . .
I am running through a few posts and will say, “have a lovely weekend and hope settling in is almost finished, at least in the kitchen, dear!” xo ❀

  4. There aren’t easy care orchids when I am concerned, well maybe the plastic ones πŸ˜€ This one is beautiful! Enjoy your endeavors and just think you’ll be able to relax afterwards. xx
