Hubby bought this Vanda orchid for me a couple of years ago. Ir was in a plastic tube pot and had no soil. I was fascinated to see how it flowered so beautifully without any growing medium. When it finished flowering, it was quite neglected for a while, until hubby brought it over to the new house and tied it to a palm tree in the front garden. Since then it’s flowered profusely, twice in five months.
I mist it occasionally and feed the roots if I remember, which isn’t very often, but it seems to bear no grudges at all.Β This was how it looked in April.
Now it’s in full bloom again. I’m so happy that it’s flowering before we go away for six weeks, as I would hate to miss seeing it. It’s such a beautiful sight as we come into our driveway.
I’m also linking this post to Jude’s ‘September Flower Portrait’ Garden Challenge.
Wishing you all a very happy weekend. Ours won’t be at all relaxing, but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it nevertheless.
Orchids are far stronger than most people think. You certainly are in the right climate for this vanda. It’s gorgeous! I’ve kept phalaenopsis orchids in prior homes but this one gets too little light for them to thrive. Drat!
Yes they are quite hardy outside, as long as they have the right climate. There are now 12 huge flowers on this one. I wish I could take it with me on holiday, as it may not look as good by the time I return home.
Is it me or is it just enormous? amazing how orchids flourish outdoors int he right climates
Well you know what they say, “Everything is bigger and better in America.” π
Wow! Stunning orchid and it’s great how it found the right spot where it is happy and blooming.
Many thanks for joining the Floral Friday Fotos meme, I look forward to your next contribution.
Thanks so much, Nick. π
VERY cool! I’m jealous – I love that it’s bloomed so much – you must have chosen the perfect spot, for sure.
Yes, unknowingly it seems. We never dreamed it would do so well. π
What a gorgeous plant! You must live in a great climate for it to flower so generously.
Thanks, Linda. Of course, we have a lot of humidity for most of the year, which is great for the plants, but not for my hair. π
What a beautiful orchid. I love them and have a few of my own but it’s taken me years to learn how to keep them alive π
So beautiful! Great colour too!
Thanks, Ute. This morning, I was telling it just that. π
That is why it brings you so much joy!

Wow, beautiful vibrant pink. Gorgeous.
Thanks, Anabel. π
This sparked memories for me; they look very like the orchids my mother had in her garden. A beautiful sight, indeed.
Thanks so much. My mom was also an avid orchid grower. π
And just in case my blog reading slips up (it usually does) have a great holiday in South Africa. Thanks to the magic of the internet I have recently been in contact with an old penfriend of mine. She lives in Boggomsbaai which looks beautiful.
Yes, it’s Heritage Day in South Africa, but we now live in Florida. π
Beautiful orchid flower Sylvia, so vibrant her color. Lovely β€
Thanks, DellaAnna. π
Very lovely and a striking welcome as you get home, happy weekend Sylvia!
Thanks, Gilly. I do love seeing this beauty. Hope it keeps on flowering so often. π
Orchids are such beautiful plants and sounds like you have a very happy one too!
Thank you. Yes, it looks so cheerful. π
What a beauty.Like the pink color.Have also a lot of orchids
Thanks, Marylou. π
Beautiful! It is fascinating to plant grows out of thin air, isn’t it.
Thanks, YC. Yes, very fascinating. Like magic. π
I love the vibrant pink of the flowers. Well done on achieving success with your orchid. They can be so temperamental.
Thanks, Carol. I’m really lucky with this one. π
So beautiful, and great to have it outside!
Thanks so much, Irene. I’m so thrilled with its beautiful flowers. π
I had completely forgotten that Floridian thing of growing orchids in palm trees, it is so clever, can’t somehow see it working here!!!
No, it definitely wouldn’t work in Europe. As you know, we don’t really have winter here in Florida. π
Glorious, Sylvia. I LOVE them. I don’t have any Vandas. They had some for sale at our last orchid meeting. I controlled my desire to add another orchid to my collection. I’ll enjoy yours. Thank you for posting this beauty. π
Thanks, Issy. I bet you’ll buy one at some stage. They’re hard to resist. π
Perhaps, a Christmas gift. LOL π
I am sure it may turn brown under my care, Sylvia. You say, “easy care” and I respond, “challenging!” π
I am excited how you could just cart this one around, if I am thinking of the one which used to be in your old house’s yard. . .
I am running through a few posts and will say, “have a lovely weekend and hope settling in is almost finished, at least in the kitchen, dear!” xo β€
I’m sure your thumbs are greener than you imagine, Robin. I’m usually hopeless with house plants. π
I am excited that you are giving me hope for the pot with orchid leaves which is growing on one of my end tables, Sylvia. π In two months more it will have been a year ago, received as a birthday gift with plenty of flowers!
There aren’t easy care orchids when I am concerned, well maybe the plastic ones π This one is beautiful! Enjoy your endeavors and just think you’ll be able to relax afterwards. xx
I have a couple of silk ones too, and it’s amazing how they just keep on flowering. Miracle plants! π xx

Pragtig
Dankie, Tina. xx
Beautiful! It’s amazing that the orchids can cope with so little care and attention.
I wish so could be like that. π
Haha, me too! ππ
*sigh*
π
Simply awesome…!
Thanks, Anna. π
I love orchids Sylvia. This one is a beauty.
Thanks, Adrian.
Gorgeous flower, low maintenance is truly the key to survival in my garden.
Thanks, Charlie. Me too. π
How gorgeous! And you could link it to my flower portrait month too as it is obviously a very special plant π
Thanks, Jude. I’ll look into that. π
This sounds like my kind of plant! Low maintenance and insisting on living.
Hehehe…… The perfect plant, Sue. I don’t think they’d do too well outside in Alberta. π
Stunning! β€
Thanks, Jill. π xx
It must be a nice cheerful thing to come back to at the end of the day. π
Yes, it’s very welcoming, Bun. π
Low Maintenance Beauty = the Best!
I think most men would agree with you, Nancy. π
That’s really something, I’ve never heard of a flower that’s so resilient π wow!
Thanks, Andy. It’s so amazing how it bounces back. π
It is! π
