Glancing out of the window this morning at breakfast, I was super excited to see that our first Pelican had arrived after a long summer absence. He was all alone on his branch, having a jolly good preen.
After quite a lot of effort, he sat back, well satisfied with his appearance. “Wow, look at me now! Even after that long flight from up north, not a feather out of place.”
I’m sure he’d been sent down in advance to check that the trees were still intact after Hurricane Irma passed through Florida in September, and he’s most probably already sent a Whatsapp to the rest of the gang, reporting that all is well.Β I’m hoping that I’ll soon see more of these gorgeous birds decorating the branches.
Hope you’re all having a great weekend.
It’s such an amazing bird. And beautifully captured in these images.
Thanks, Otto. I think he was posing for me. π
Pelicans one of my favorites. Beautiful photos. Will be interesting to see the long term effect of the hurricanes with the birds. Nicely done photo/essay. Thank you.
I love to see the way these cumbersome looking birds become so graceful in flight as they skim over the waves
Yes, you’re so right, Pauline. They are wonderful to watch. π
love these guys, great shots Sylvia!
Thanks, Cybele. He’s disappeared again. π¦
He’s a looking Pelican, let’s toast to more sightings
Of course, it should have read, ‘he’s a good looking Pelican…..
Thanks, Eddie. Yes, I hope so too. π
Mr. Pelly is quite a handsome fellow.
I think so too, and I’m sure he would agree with us. π
love the branches and would like to paint a version of the first photo!
and S- I actually know why he is here alone.
He was using Whatsapp but because it was hacked – his message never made it to to the rest of the gang- lol
did you hear about the hack?
well that made me laugh – to hear of him using whatsapp
What fun, Yvette. I love your explanation. π
and cheers to mr. Pelly Back
I have to make a conscious effort to visit regularly (I’ve cut back my onscreen time), because I love your pictures and the descriptions you give each.
Aaw….thanks so much, Cathy. I’ve also cut back drastically on my blogging of late. Life seems to get in the way. Lovely to see you. xx
What a handsome fellow he is! So very glad that his favorite perch is still standing.
Thanks, Gunta. He looks quite self-important, doesn’t he? π
It must be one of the best aspects of Florida living, having such wonderful wildlife on your doorstep, Ad. π π
Oh yes, I so agree with you. Without all the wonderful wildlife, there would just be lots of old people. π
He looks very satisfied with the arrangements. π Your pelicans are different from ours, which are larger and whiter. They are such characters.
We do see white pelicans here in Florida too, but not in our backyard. The brown ones are much more common, although I’m sure Mr Pelly wouldn’t be happy to be called ‘common’. π
He might be a little insulted.
Ah, so good seeing lovely Mr. Pelly! A sign of a great week ahead! π xx
Thanks so much, dear Marina. I wish you a great week. xx
Oooh, look at Mr Pelly and his belly!
Hahaha….. Yes, he really does have a Pelly Belly. π
The real McCoy, then!
Stunning shots, AD! Hope you’re keeping well…xx
Thanks so much, Cocoa. Lovely to see you again. π
I just caught up with your Silent Sundays. Great photos, but no place to comment.
Or maybe Mr P is not letting on yet that everything is fine because he wants to have the place to himself for a while; a bit of peace and quiet. π
That’s a possibility, I suppose. The foliage on the trees thinned out a lot during the hurricane. I wonder whether he has noticed that.
Quite possibly he has. Birds are so observant.
Yes, for Christmas decorate the branches with birds, the best trees look natural! Glad to see Mr Pelly.
Thanks, Ute. Nature really does the best tree decorations. π xx
He does look like he was proud of preening his own feathers. Maybe he wanted to show up to your doorstep all nice and pretty…for a good meal π
Thanks, Mabel. Yes he really does look smart and very handsome. π
So now all Pelly’s friends now exactly what’s app – phew!
Hehehe π
How nice that he is back π
Thanks, Amy. π
As a visitor to Florida myself I didn’t realise that pelicans were seasonal. Just expected to see them by the sea in any season.
Yes, I think they are around most of the time, but they only come to our patch as winter approaches. Not sure why.
We’ve seen a return of white pelicans this week ~ our brown pelicans are year-round residents.
How lovely, Nancy. We don’t have any pelicans in our backyard except in the winter months.
I love those two shots. π They really made me smile.
janet
Thanks so much, Janet. I was so happy to see him back again. π
oh isn’t he beautiful! love your captions too Sylvia- have a good weekend
Thanks so much, Lisa. xx
Beautiful!! Good to see Mr. P back! Happy for you! βΊοΈ
Thanks, AmyRose. xx π
He looks quite fresh from a long journey. I am sure he would send message loud and clear to his gang to come.
Thanks, YC. I really hope so, but today it seems that he’s disappeared again. π¦
I am sure he will be back. Next time, he might even do the dive down into the water show for you too.
Fingers crossed. π
Fine this lovely bird is back
Thanks, Marylou. π
Great that Mr. P is back! Have a wonderful weekend. π
The Fab Four of Cley
Thanks so much. You too. π
Mr. P is so noble and handsome! I don’t think he’s missed a meal either.
So he is. He does look rather portly. π
