Who would have thought that out of all the amazing birds we have here in Florida, the small inconspicuous Northern Mocking Bird would be chosen as its State Bird?
I’m sure that the ever-dapper Mr. GBH, the distinguished Pelly Pelican and the always elegant Great Egret, would not be impressed were I to tell them this piece of news. Thank goodness they don’t read my blog.

Whenever I see birds in flight, it always make me wish that I could fly too. What fun it would be, and imagine how I’d surprise my friends if I could do this trick. I’d just be sitting there quietly, listening whilst they chatted to me,
and then suddenly, ‘Zowie’!! I’d take off into the blue, leaving them open-mouthed with astonishment.

When I saw these two photos, the words of this song from ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, sprang straight to mind. When we were young girls, my sister and I used to really enjoy performing it, and even won a holiday talent competition at the seaside in England.
After breakfast, Mr. Anhinga and Mr. Peli are having a wing-spreading competition. A close contest, but I think you have to agree that Mr. Peli wins the prize.
Not to be left out of the proceedings, Iggy also positions himself to also show off his handsome right profile. Nice try Iggy, but I think it’s definitely a no contest. Mr. Peli’s regal profile is extremely hard to beat.

Usually so sleek and smooth, even Mr. GBH can have a ‘bad hair day’. Somehow he still manages to look absolutely gorgeous, so maybe this is just the newest fashion in bird coiffure.
