I was delighted to get my first sighting of a Green Heron whilst out at the Nature reserve last Sunday, What a ‘Fashionista’ is this striking bird, balancing on slender yellow legs, with his velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, fancy waistcoat and chic dark chapeau. Although he’s quite a small heron, that dagger-like bill looks absolutely lethal. Any unfortunate victim on the receiving end certainly doesn’t stand a chance.
I hope this has been a good week for you all and that the weekend will be most enjoyable. This is my last weekend here in Florida before we leave for England next Saturday.
Is his wife green?
Gorgeous.
You have captured the colors beautifully! I wish you a good stay in England escaping the heat!
Thanks so much, Helen. Off to South Africa tonight. 😃
And he was in such beautiful Spring breeding plumage. Wow, great photo!
Have a great trip..
I’m looking forward to your photos of England.
Thanks, Linda. We’re only there for a couple of days before flying on to SA, but on the way back, we have a bit more time there.

Your description may me imagine this person as a show host which mostly like to dress up in very flashy clothes 🙂
Haha. Yes, I think he would make a dashing TV show host. 😅
Have a great trip, Sylvia. Be safe.
Thanks so much, Jill. 😘
Great photo of a lovely bird. Happy travelling.
Thanks, Carol. 🙂
They’re beautiful birds, and so nice to find one that isn’t shy in the open – here the green herons are mostly seen skulking in thick vegetation along the water’s edge.
Yes, I believe so, Dries. I was just lucky with this one. 🙂
Have a wonderful trip. Hope you find your MIL in good health!
Thanks, Nancy. I’m sure we will on both counts. 🙂

Thanks so much, Lola. 😃
Wow, what a pretty bird 🙂 I’ve spotted a Green backed Heron several times up in the tree above the creek on warm summer afternoons in east Tennessee,,, It took me two years to figure out what she was using my Audubon Field Guide (Eastern Region),,,and in a tree?
Thanks for your comment. Glad you eventually worked out the name of the bird you saw up a tree. 🙂
He’s definitely the James Bond of the bird world. Dress well and carry a big … beak. 😉
Haha. Great comment, Lynette. 🤣
What a wonderful capture!
Bravo!
Thanks so much, Dawn. 🙂
There’s a sight that stands out in the reserve.

Absolutely, Eddie. I’m dreading the packing. 🙂
Quite the handsome fellow, that’s for sure. The herons, cormorants, and goldfinches are back at our park and I’m waiting to see the first egret. I’ve never seen any herons like this unfortunately. Have a wonderful trip! How long will you be gone?
