Feathers On Friday: A Snappy Dresser

I was delighted to get my first sighting of a Green Heron whilst out at the Nature reserve last Sunday, What a ‘Fashionista’ is this striking bird, balancing on slender yellow legs, with his velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, fancy waistcoat and chic dark chapeau. Although he’s quite a small heron, that dagger-like bill looks absolutely lethal. Any unfortunate victim on the receiving end certainly doesn’t stand a chance.

I hope this has been a good week for you all and that the weekend will be most enjoyable. This is my last weekend here in Florida before we leave for England next Saturday.

  1. Sunday best all year round Sylvia I wonder, or just a Springtime statement .
He’s quite a look in his eye 😉
    Nice capture !

  2. They’re beautiful birds, and so nice to find one that isn’t shy in the open – here the green herons are mostly seen skulking in thick vegetation along the water’s edge.

  3. I have no knowledge with bird names but I know a beauty when I see one. And he truly is beautiful, highlighted even more by your lovely description.
Have a nice trip to England!

  4. Wow, what a pretty bird 🙂 I’ve spotted a Green backed Heron several times up in the tree above the creek on warm summer afternoons in east Tennessee,,, It took me two years to figure out what she was using my Audubon Field Guide (Eastern Region),,,and in a tree?

  5. Quite the handsome fellow, that’s for sure. The herons, cormorants, and goldfinches are back at our park and I’m waiting to see the first egret. I’ve never seen any herons like this unfortunately. Have a wonderful trip! How long will you be gone?
