Floral Friday Fotos: Finally A Flower

Our newest Hibiscus has been very green and healthy-looking for months now, but every time a bud started to appear, it dried up and fell off. I’ve fed it, sprayed it with bug repellent, cajoled and threatened it, but it seemed determined not to flower. Hubby and I have been on a week’s jaunt to Key West for our 53rd wedding anniversary and yesterday on our return, this is what we saw; a perfectly formed flower the size of a soup bowl. I think we should go away more often.

Wishing you all a splendid weekend.

  1. A belated happy anniversary to your both and what a lovely blossom to welcome you home. As to your hibiscus, it is usually pests that make the buds fall off before they bloom. Try using sticky yellow traps or insecticidal sprays, that should help. Either that or go on another trip. πŸ˜€

  2. Absolutely wonderful! This hibiscus is outstandingly beautiful, no wonder you are so taken with it. Happy Anniversary, Sylvia!

  3. That is a beautiful hibiscus bloom, Sylvia! I once had a cat who liked to break off the buds off of my red-flowered hibiscus and bring them to me. I wondered what was so attractive, so I sniffed the base of the bud and it smelled slightly fishy.
