Silent Sunday: The Vigil

A Great Blue Heron standing guard over the remains of another one who had evidently met an untimely death. There were dozens of people on the boardwalk taking photos, but he seemed oblivious as he stood there absolutely motionless. I felt so sad for him, as he was obviously grieving and didn’t want to leave his mate. I wonder how long his vigil lasted.

Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday.

  1. Well, the days seem to be flying by at an incredible pace… but this was utterly sad. It brings me to tears to see the grieving in other sentient creatures. I almost can’t stand to look at the images of the poor little koala bears caught in the fires, or the scrawny polar bears caught floating on a spot of ice out where the water has taken over. Sigh.

  2. And people believe animals/birds don’t have emotions. Anyone who spends any kind of time in Nature or with animals, knows better! How sad, Sylvia. I can feel this GBH’s pain through this picture.
