Floral Friday: Lily Of The Incas

I love having these colourful Inca lilies to greet my visitors and our local supermarket always has them in abundance. This beautiful flower also known as Alstroemeria and Peruvian Lily, originates from South America and was introduced to Europe in the 18th century by Swedish botanist Baron von Alstroemer.

Wishing you all a really enjoyable weekend.

This is also for Cee’s FOTD Challenge.

  1. I’ve seen ’em in the supermarket flower section and have even bought them as part of arrangements from time to time, but didn’t know they were called Inca Lillies. They have good staying power too, before going bad.

  2. I did not know that these vibrant flower was called β€œLily of the Incas,” which gives them a mythical quality. You had me scurrying to find out more. I just found out that Clas Alstromer was a close friend of Carl Linnaeus. I can only imagine what they talked about over dinner.
