The subject of Debbie’s ‘One Word Sunday’ is Spiral. I immediately thought of this spiral staircase leading up to the Cabiria Restaurant at the Marriott Grand Hotel Flora in Rome. We were whisked up to the roof deck by elevator, but after dinner, even after a few glasses of wine, hubby and I decided that this was a far more exciting way to get back down to ground level. On my winding descent, I counted 186 steps.

Wishing you all a splendid Sunday and new week ahead. It seems impossible that we’re almost into September and with not a skerrick of travelling done this year.
Great photos and articles. Thank you for sharing your experiences. You may want to check my website too: http://www.lifetimetraveller.com .

Perfect pick for the challenge.
Thanks, Nancy. ๐
Makes me feel dizzy just looking at your picture. ๐ฅด
So sorry. ๐
LOL … I’d hate to have to climb that many steps.
I’m sure going down is much easier but still a big task.
Great entry …
Have a wonderful week โฆ Be Safe
Isadora ๐
Thanks, Izzy. Steps donโt bother me, in fact I miss living in a two storey house. I used to enjoy running up and down stairs several times a day. ๐
Aahhh … you’re fortunate, Sylvia. My knees, hips and back are always taking turns on who’s going to show-up in the morning to cause aches and pain. LOL

Absolutely beautiful staircase but I can’t look down them, they make me dizzy.
Thanks, Karen. So you wouldn’t be dashing down those stairs? ๐
No way! ๐
That’s a good way to walk off your dinner.
Every bit helps. ๐
Enchanting sights non the less, happy trails Sylvia
Thanks, Eddie.
wow! perfect for the challenge, Sylvia. have a wonderful week! ๐
Thanks so much, Lola. ๐
You have captured that perfectly.. beautiful..
Thanks, Lisa. Actually it was Chris taking the photo. Thatโs me on the staircase. ๐คฃ
I did wonder but it could have been Chris.. I love the movement in it.. ๐
What a wonderful staircase!
Yes. It certainly is and it was obviously newly carpeted. I shouldnโt imagine it gets used much. Maybe itโs more of a fire escape in case the elevator is out of use. โค๏ธ
What a beauty!
Thanks, Ann Christine. It was quite a find. ๐
What a stunning photo, I thought it was an archway at first. A big sigh…..will we ever get back to Rome one day?
Thanks, Gerrie. I really hope it wonโt be too long. This year seems to be going on forever. ๐ณ
Yes! March seems a year ago!
Those are beautiful stairs! Great photo. ๐
Thanks, Lynette. ๐
Very nice shot of the stairs. I love spiral stair pictures. This reminds me of the one I saw in Vatican Rome.
Thanks, YC. Yes, I remember that staircase but donโt think I have photo. It was too crowded there.
See how beautifully carpeted those stairs were with plush red carpeting. Who could resist. Not me. ๐
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stairway. I know that you floated down the stairs, Sylvia, with grace and elegance. I am dizzy just looking at the photo. You have the best memories.
Dizzying indeed! However the first thing that came to mind with “spiral” was that 1946 mystery, “The Spiral Staircase.” I like Sylvia’s spiral staircase much better ๐
I just looked up this movie and it seems to be right up there with one of the most scary and gripping movies I ever saw, โWait Until Darkโ with Audrey Hepburn. Yes, I like my spiral staircase much better. ๐
Wonderful spiral upstairs
It was quite amazing, Marylou. ๐
That is a lot of steps! Going down I can do, but going up?!
With me, it depends on the altitude I’m at. If it’s sea level I”m fine, but I did struggle a bit at some of the higher altitude places we’ve visited, like Machu Picchu. ๐
I can imagine that.
186 steps sound far easier to do going down than going up…
I think going up is easier on the knees. Next time Iโll try both and see which is best or worst. ๐
186!!!!!!!! I love the shot by the way!
I know right, September already….
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Thanks so much, dear Marina. Hope youโre having a lovely Sunday. ๐๐ค
I’m on a very short break [about to end], so yes…. thank you, Sylvia! xoxoxo
Happy Sunday and week ahead! xoxo
I do like shots like this, Sylvia. Of even more interesting is the word “skerrick”, which I’ve never heard before. I like it (and I looked it up, so I know it’s a real word.) ๐
janet
Thanks, Janet. As if I would make up a word like โskerrickโ! ๐คฃ

What an incredible staircase. Quite the setting and the exercise! When I think about โspiralโ, I think about the round staircase up a lighthouse in Hope Town, Bahamas. It was pink as well. ๐
Thanks, Liesbet. A pink spiral staircase does sound very Bahamian. ๐
Oh my word. I couldn’t go down those stairs without wine! You’re brave and I’m afraid of heights. ๐
Haha……I didn’t think about whether I was brave or not. I’m quite an impulsive person and if I get it into my head to do something crazy, I go for it before i can change my mind. ๐
Maybe the wine gave you courage! ๐
That is a great photo, Sylvia! I bet it was fun going downstairs!
Thanks, Lavinia. Yes, it was a fun evening altogether and running down those stairs was a great way to end it. ๐
Wow, load of stairs!
It seemed never-ending. ๐ฏ
