Debbie’s ‘One Word Sunday -Spectacle’, immediately brought this photo to mind. Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca citadel in Southern Peru and after it’s discovery by Hiram Bingham in July 1911, it became one of the ‘New 7 Wonders Of The World’. It is most certainly a stunning spectacle to behold and to explore and I was very happy to be able to cross it off my Bucket List.
I hope you’re all having a most enjoyable weekend. Yesterday, Ali Baba our resident alligator came cruising past our kitchen window. Now there’s another spectacle for you, but he’d unfortunately disappeared again before I could grab my camera and go out to wish him a very good morning.

This place is wow and am sure on many people’s bucket list. You are so lucky 👍😊
Thank you. Yes, I know how fortunate I am to have been there.
Fabulous spot to pitch a tent . . . or build a citadel!
Exactly so, Nancy. 🙂
It must be really beautiful there.
Yes, it really is.
love your content! keep up the great work!
Thank you.
Machu Picchu is certainly spectacular. We were fortunate enough to see it a few years ago, albeit only for an afternoon.
Thanks, David. I’m happy you’ve been there too. We were lucky to be able to explore over two days.
I can tell by your header photo that this is one of your favorite spots. Consider yourself lucky to have visited it. Did you have to climb to get that shot? Or did you have a drone??? Inquiring minds want to know.
It was taken at the highest point of the complex. There are buildings up there too. . It’s quite a climb especially with the altitude and there are goats all over the place. 😃
Good to know. I do not do well in high altitudes. I’ve often wondered if goats might not be the answer to “raking” our forests. Our biggest problem is drought, but our climate also produces massive amounts of scrubby brush that allows the fires to climb into the crowns of the trees that are normally adapted to smaller, less intense fire. Can’t think of anything that might be as efficient as goats to keep that brush under control. I doubt if there is enough manpower in the world to subdue our undergrowth with rakes. 😉
My header photo is taken in Belize at a Maya temple in the jungle.
Magnificent! (Oh to travel again…)
Thanks, Fi. I’ll second that. 🙏🏻
Would love to see that spectacle for myself! Nice photo and composition. 🙂
Thanks so much, Lisa. 😃
A breathtaking ‘spectacle’ indeed, Sylvia! Happy Monday and week ahead! xoxoxo
Thanks so much, dear Marina. 😘
xoxoxoxoxo
A good choice
Thanks, Derrick.
I think I would rather have a close encounter with Machu Picchu than Ali Baba, the alligator, but both are certainly spectacles. Lovely photo.
Thanks so much. I agree with you. 😅
This is a spectacular site! Still on our to-do list 🙂
Thanks, TG. Hope you get there. 😃
Such an incredible location, Sylvia, and the effort that must have gone into building and sustaining a settlement of that size up so high is mind-boggling.
I think the Incas must have been very tough and tenacious people.
Very nice photo especially with the background of mountains. Thanks for sharing. For some reason, this is one place that I never plan on visiting.
Thanks, ZL. It is in a beautiful setting. Glad you could visit vicariously if not in person. 😃
We would love to visit here but not sure now if that will ever happen. Great to enjoy your photo in the meantime.
Thanks so much, Carol. This was part of one of our two round the world trips.

Thanks, Yvette. I’ll relay your greeting if he shows his face again. 😅
😊
A spectacle indeed
Thanks, Sue.
Sylvia – this photo is beyond fabulous. You capture the beauty and power of the Incas. I have never been to Machu Picchu and now with Covid19 it will be a long time before we venture forth internationally. The next best thing to being there “in person” is through a book. I read an extraordinary book by Kim MacQuarrie “The Last Days of the Incas”. He wrote: “The Incas’ genius— like that of the Romans—lay in their masterful organizational abilities. Amazingly, an ethnic group that probably never exceeded 100,000 individuals was able to regulate the activities of roughly ten million people. This was in spite of the fact that the empire’s citizens spoke more than seven hundred local languages and were distributed among 2,500 miles of some of the most rugged and diverse terrain on earth.” Thank you for this photo, which is of National Geographic quality. I feel that I was there with you.
Thanks so much, Rebecca. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have visited this amazing place when we did. We stayed two nights in a local hotel and went up to the citadel on both days. It was an unforgettable experience. They certainly were an awesome people. The facts you quote from Kim MacQuarrie’s book are quite mind-boggling. I’m so happy you loved the photo. 🤗
Every time I stop by your place, you take me on the best adventures. Yes, you were very fortunate to visit Machu Picchu – I understand that this site was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide internet poll.
