One Word Sunday: Red

Debbie’s ‘One Word’ for this Sunday is ‘Red’. After my donkey’s whatchamacallit for a previous challenge, I decided to stay in Morocco for a while longer. Here are the taxicabs outside the Medina in Fez. The red ones are called Petit Taxis and can carry three passengers with room for luggage on the roof.

Red is a popular colour in Morocco. The red background of the flag represents hardiness, bravery, strength and valour. We were told that this was a welcoming reception for the king who was expected to arrive shortly for some traditional event.

Feathers On Friday: A Backyard Meeting

Yesterday through my bathroom window, I spied with my little eye………..a huddle of white Ibis congregating for Thanksgiving.

No doubt they were giving thanks for the abundance of insects, small frogs, snails, worms and fish to be found along the water’s edge.

Our Thanksgiving was quiet, peaceful and delicious and I’m sure we’re going to be eating cold turkey for the foreseeable future, not to mention the delicious Tiramisu I made for dessert.

Wishing you all a great weekend. Stay safe.

Feathers And Scales On Friday: Let’s All Take A Turn

With the really strong winds we’ve been having in Florida, it was only a matter of time until the leaning palm tree in our backyard, toppled over, fortunately towards the lake and not the house.

Annie Anhinga was the first wild resident to discover it and it soon became a favourite spot for drying her wings in the sunshine.

Next up was Woody wood stork, who also liked to pose there for the odd photo.

I’m happy to report that the Iguana Control guy hasn’t done a very thorough job of ridding our neighbourhood of Iggys, and was delighted to see that a young, bright-green one had also found his way onto the palm trunk for a quick shot, but only with my camera.

In only a few days, the garden service came along with their chainsaw to chop up the tree and cart it away. Annie, Woody and Iggy returned the next morning, only to find that their newfound perch had vanished. I felt quite sad and would have liked to explain to them, but unfortunately they don’t speak English.

Wishing you all a great weekend. Stay safe everyone. (Since updating the software on my Apple watch, it informs me every morning, “You have no events.” Sounds about right.)

One Word Sunday: Whatchamacallit

Debbie’s fun theme this Sunday, ‘Whatchamacallit’, brought to mind something I saw when strolling around the medina of Fez in Morocco. The only form of transport allowed in the busy market are donkeys and mules, so to keep the ground clean and hazard-free for us humans, the animals are required to wear a ‘Whatchamacallit’ on their hindquarters. Can you think of a better name for it?

Wishing you all a happy Sunday wherever you may be.
