One Word Sunday: Body

When I saw Debbie’s ‘One Word’ for this Sunday, ‘Body’, I immediately thought of a body of water. I have many photos which show a body of water, but this one is quite unique in that it also shows a very fit human body in the foreground. On one of our walks along the beachfront in Umhlanga, we happened upon this athletic body who was “just cooling down” after his three-mile morning run. He very kindly agreed to make an extra effort and repeat the performance so that I could get a photo. He told me that he was now fifty-years-old and at one time an Olympic gymnast. He kept fit by not eating junk food and exercising regularly. Some of you may have seen this on my blog a few years ago, but it’s definitely worth a second look.

I hope you’re all having a happy and healthy Sunday.

One Word Sunday: Skyline

Debbie’s one word this Sunday is ‘Skyline’, so I’ve travelled over in spirit to South Africa and the seaside town of Umhlanga where we used to live.

This was the skylne we saw as we walked a few steps down the pathway leading from our house to the beach and the Indian Ocean.

A short distance along the beach and past the lighthouse, one could look back and see this skyline with an often hazy view of the city of Durban in the distance..

A little further along the promenade, one could look out to sea and admire the candelabra-shaped aloes which line the pathway.

I’m not really much of an early bird, but getting up in time to view the sunrise over the sea was always worth the effort. Now all these skylines are making me really homesick.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed a lovely weekend. To join Debbie’s ‘One Word Sunday’, just click the link.

One Word Sunday: Roll Or Role

Here are photos of my cute granddaughter Sienna when she visited us in South Africa In 2012. We went to an Italian restaurant and in her unexpected ‘role‘ as chef, she was thrilled to be able to make her own pizza. She first had to ‘roll’ out the dough.

It was an exciting experience for her, being able to add her own toppings.

She declared the finished masterpiece very yummy.

It’s really good at the moment to look back through travel photos which bring back happy memories. Wishing you all a relaxing Sunday.

One Word Sunday: Gaggle

Debbie’s ‘One Word Sunday-Gaggle’ reminded me of our Antarctic trip for our 50th Anniversary four years ago. The sheer number of penguins to be seen as our ship neared the shore was quite mind-boggling and I think certainly qualifies as a ‘Gaggle’.

A little closer and we got a better perspective.

Actually the collective noun for a group of penguins is really ‘a waddle’ for obvious reasons.

Oh how wonderful it will be to travel to far away places again,

Feathers On Friday: RIP Little Dassie

My sister Yvonne in South Africa, sent me this photo of a juvenile crowned eagle in her back garden.

In its unusually large talons is one of the baby dassies whose family lives under the garden shed, so no happy new year for him. When my sister first saw a couple of these furry little rodents in her garden, she thought how sweet they were, so started feeding them. After a very short while they sent word to their family and friends that there was a kind human who was giving out free food and that they were all invited. It didn’t take long before the whole tribe arrived in her garden and they very quickly discovered a thriving vegetable patch with lots of juicy morsels just there for the taking and started to strip it bare. Then the eagle arrived and provided a solution to the problem.

Wishing you all a safe, healthy and happy new year. Thank you so much for your visits and comments. I appreciate each one of you.
