Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Clouds

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge this week is ‘Clouds’.

Here are clouds hovering over the city of La Paz, the capital of of Bolivia. At an elevation of roughly 3,650 m (11,975 ft) above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. We’d just flown into El Alto airport which is even higher, at an altitude of 13,323′ and I was definitely feeling the effects.

Clouds over lake Titicaca as we took the hydrofoil across the lake to Copacabana.

The clouds around the lighthouse in my old hometown of Umhlanga South Africa, where at sea level my body is happiest.

Here in Florida it’s pretty flat too. No wonder the clouds fall into the water at our local nature reserve.

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Side Of Things

Cee’s B&W challenge this week is ‘View from The Side’. Here are a couple of photos I took on the Antarctic cruise hubby and I did for our 50th wedding anniversary in 2016.

Here’s the side view of one of the many thousands of penguins we saw on our travels.

This side view of the icy coastline was taken from our balcony as we sailed along. I hardly had  to edit these, as they were  already monochrome .

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Wheels

For Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge ‘Wheels’,  here are a few random wheel pics from my travels.

In May 2010 we took a trip to Yellowstone National Park, starting off in Jackson Hole, where we rented a Dodge Durango SUV. Here it is outside the cute chalet where we spent our first night.

When we set off the next day, hubby realised that the power outlets weren’t working, which meant that we couldn’t use our GPS, so back we went to the rental office where it was swapped out for a Chevy Suburban which was very spacious indeed for just the two of us, but who’s going to complain about that? The weather was unseasonably cold for May, and when we arrived at Old Faithful, I noticed pretty icicles on the wheels.

Now for something completely different. A horse and buggy ride around Savannah in much warmer weather.

Last but not least, some ‘choo choo’ wheels in Chattanooga.

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Looks Like A Face

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge this week is ‘Looks like a face’. I immediately thought of Mr Leo lion who is always waiting on the boardwalk to greet us when we visit our local wildlife reserve. He looks kind of disappointed with his lot in life, but then I suppose we would all feel that way if we had hundreds of pairs of feet walking all over us every day of the week. Most folk wouldn’t even notice him, but I always stop and say “Hello” just to cheer him up a bit.

This tree trunk in a park in Santiago, would also go unnoticed if someone with a sense of humour hadn’t decided to give it a rather agonized face. It reminded me of  ‘The Scream’ the iconic painting symbolising the anxiety of modern man, by Norwegian Expressionist artist Edvard Munch.

My Family’s Tender Moments

Cee’s B&W Challenge this week is “Tender Moments.”

Many of our tender moments are experienced with family, and mine is no exception.

My sister-in-law with her sweet and much adored poodle Lucca, who sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago.

My grandson with the family cat, Ravioli. She is very much loved by all and has long ago learned to endure all the cuddles she gets.

My cute little grandson Max, cuddling up to granny.

Our precious daughter Mandy with her dad and loving her first visit to us in Florida. What a wonderful ten days we had together.

Our son comforting and encouraging his younger daughter Taylor when she suddenly got stage fright at the school concert.

Last but not least, me cozying up to Santa, hoping he had a present in his sack with my name on it.

Hope your weekend is a very relaxing and happy one.

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Isolated Objects

Here’s a gorgeous tri-coloured heron in monochrome for this week’s ‘Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge‘. Still so beautiful and and even more elegant without the colour.

Horns in Wyoming

A few years ago we stayed in Jackson Hole on our way to Yellowstone National Park. In Jackson town centre is the George Washington Memorial Park which has four archways built entirely out of elk antlers. There are approximately 2,000 antlers to each arch.

On our travels through Yellowstone we saw many bison, the largest land mammal in North America. The males can weigh anything up to 2,000 pounds and females about 1,000 pounds. They can run up to 35 miles an hour, so it’s best not to have a race with one, as they can quickly pivot and suddenly be turning to face you.

SANY0167.JPG

These bison are pure descendants of the vast herds which once roamed the grasslands of the United States and the largest bison population is to be found in Yellowstone, where they have lived continuously since prehistoric times.

For the sake of safety, these photos were taken through the open car window.

Happy Sunday everyone.
