Feathers On Friday: Miss Rosie Is In The Pink

Miss Rosie is a very infrequent visitor to our backyard, so it was such a delight to see her again. When I first spotted her outside my bathroom window, she was socially distancing with the Great Blue and the Tricolored Herons. The trio were scanning the lake for a fishing opportunity.

After a while the others got bored and wandered off further along the bank, leaving her alone and before long she obviously saw what she was looking for.

Here, she looks quite pleased with herself, don’t you think?

Wishing you all a splendid weekend, whatever you have planned. Our country club started to open up a bit from the lockdown and we booked to have a meal outside on the covered patio with a couple of friends. Before it could happen though, we got a message that one of the wait-staff had tested positive for the Coronavirus, so they were having to close down again. I can’t imagine when this is going to end as the numbers in Florida are way up again.

Feathers on Friday: Mr GBH Gives A Heads Up

Fishing along the water’s edge, Mr GBH is seen against the backdrop of the Coral Tree  flower reflections. (Photos taken through my bathroom window.)

Such elegance as he holds his head high on that slender neck.

Monday Mutterings

“Hey young Al, haven’t seen you around for a while. It’s all very well sunning yourself on the bank, but actually this happens to be MY patch, so kindly hoppit.”

“Oh, is that so, Mr GBH? I know you think you’re the Mayor of this place, but I’m going with the idea of first here, first dibs and while we’re about it, haven’t you heard of social distancing? You my friend, are much too close.”

DSCN7960

“Well, I guess you have a point, but don’t let it become a habit or I’ll have to do something about it.”

DSCN7965

“You and whose army? I’m quite a bit bigger than you in case you hadn’t noticed and I have teeth.”

DSCN7963

“Hrumph! I didn’t want to stand here anyway. It’s much nicer further along. I’ll leave you to your sunbathing, but I’m sure it’s going to rain.”

DSCN7973

“Thank goodness for some peace and quiet at last. That show-off really can go on a bit, but I’m glad he realises that size does count.”

Wishing you all a happy Monday and a great week.

A Fine Balancing Act

Hope you’re staying on top of things and not letting the lock-down get to you. Mr GBH has the right idea. He’s executing a fine balancing act and in doing so, seeing things from a different perspective.

How I would love to be able to fly up there and keep an eye on the whole neighbourhood from a really safe distance.

Feathers On Friday: The Many Faces Of Mr GBH

As many of you know, Mr GBH our resident Great Blue Heron is my favourite neighbour, but ‘sshush’, please don’t tell my other wild friends here in Florida. I wouldn’t want them to know that they’re not number one on my list.  I thought that today it might be fun to show his many faces.

Mr GBH the hunter, haunting the water’s edge searching for his next fishy victim.

He knows that patience pays off and is usually very successful in his endeavours.

Mr GBH the good husband and home-maker. He takes pride in creating a safe and comfortable nest for his wife and family

Mr GBH the comedian. He obviously has a sense of humour as displayed here by the twinkle in his eye and his “Wow, look at me now!” stance. Maybe he was just sunning himself, but I like to think that maybe he’s bragging just a little.

Mr GBH the deep thinker. He’s able to stand for seemingly and age, doing absolutely nothing. He knows that meditation is good for the soul.

Mr GBH the Supermodel. He can also be a bit of a dandy as he shows off his gorgeous blue-gray plumage. He has that pose worked out to perfection.

A Wednesday Conversation

“Hey there! What’s up you guys?”

DSCN7493

“Can’t talk now. We’re in the middle of a preening session.”

DSCN7499

“I’ve got my beady eye on you all. It would be such a shame if you fell out of that tree.”

Happy Wednesday to you all. Stay safe.

Silent Sunday: The Vigil

A Great Blue Heron standing guard over the remains of another one who had evidently met an untimely death. There were dozens of people on the boardwalk taking photos, but he seemed oblivious as he stood there absolutely motionless. I felt so sad for him, as he was obviously grieving and didn’t want to leave his mate. I wonder how long his vigil lasted.
