Pull Up A Seat In Johannesburg

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now on week 47 and I’ve found a few more seats from my travels.

At Johannesburg OR Tambo airport, Nelson Mandela can be found sitting on a bench as large as life.

A bit further along, Jack Daniels, whose premium Tennessee whiskey has become very popular in South Africa, also has his own bench.

On a visit to Johannesburg, our little granddaughter Sienna decided to join the flamboyant ‘cowch potato’ Daisy sitting on a bench reading the ‘Daily Mooews’

Pull Up A Seat At The Beach

Time for another ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ from XingfuMama. This week, let’s go to the beach and get some sand between our toes.

When we arrived at the Isle Of Palms ‘Wild Dunes’ resort near Charleston, where we were to stay the night on our drive from New Jersey to Florida, there was not a single person to be seen on the beach. In fact, the whole place seemed deserted.

The beach in Phuket which had been hit by a Tsunami just two years before our visit seemed just as unpopular.

In Umhlanga Rocks, things were a lot more lively as many spectators took a seat on the grass as well as on benches to view the annual Red Bull surfing competition.

Further along the beach, the rocks provided improvised seating for holiday makers.

What a great place to sit for a few hours, quietly reading or just watching the waves.

It seems that everyone loves to be at the beach.

It’s the most relaxing place to sit and do absolutely nothing.

I’m looking forward to going back there at the end of May.

Hope your Sunday is also very relaxing. If you would like to join in the ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’, just click the link.

Pull Up A Seat And Wait

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat’ challenge has come around again. When waiting for something to happen, I find that it’s always good to have somewhere to sit. After all, one never knows how long the wait is going to be.

One of our local restaurants in Umhlanga South Africa, obviously wants to make their customers feel like royalty if they have to wait for a table.

In Costa Rica we had these two beautifully-carved wooden benches to choose from whilst waiting for our river cruise.

I prefer hard suitcases rather than the canvas ones. Not only are they stronger to withstand the harsh manhandling they have to endure, but they also make a good seat whilst waiting for the taxi to the airport. We were embarking on a two month round-the-world trip and as you can see, I haven’t yet mastered the art of travelling light.

Happy weekend to you all.

We got quite wet on our way back to the apartment yesterday, but today is dry and sunny.

Tomorrow, I’ll be seeing my sister for the first time in over a  year.

Wishing you all a perfectly relaxing weekend.

Having Fun On A Windy Day

It’s been a strange sort of vacation, with far too much time spent in doctors’ waiting rooms, hospital X-ray department, CT Scan and Bronchoscopy units. There is no part of my lungs which haven’t been minutely inspected and scrutinized. My persistent cough is apparently due to nothing more serious than chest inflammation and sensitive airways. I’m now on my third lot of antibiotics plus a course of corticosteroid tablets which actually give me nightmares. For example, last night I dreamed that I was staggering around with a fold-up bed on my back, looking for hubby who was supposed to be meeting me with the car. My cell phone wasn’t working, so I couldn’t call him. Luckily I woke up before I got too tired of lugging the bed around whilst totally lost. So many pills that I do believe were I to be shaken, I’d rattle.

On the bright side, I’ve seen quite a lot of my darling sister and a few very dear friends. We’ve had some really fun times together. Here after dinner, we had just discovered that our fingers are actually identical in length.

Today is the last day in our beach front apartment here in South Africa. Tomorrow we drive up to stay with our daughter in Johannesburg for the weekend, before flying to England on Monday to see hubby’s soon to be 104-year-old mom, Kathleen.

We have a splendid view of the Indian Ocean from our balcony and yesterday hubby took these photos of intrepid guys having fun in the surf. I think it must feel really awesome to do this.  I’m not much of a water-baby myself,  but I do enjoy watching them.

I may not be able to blog or comment for the next week or so until we get back home to Florida on July 4th. I wish you all a very good week and will see you again soon.
