Feathers on Friday: Snowy takes off

Just as Grandpa Iggy decided to go for a swim yesterday, I spotted a beautiful Snowy Egret a little further along the water’s edge.

The rather loud sound of Iggy’s belly-flop, alerted the beautiful Ms. Snowy to possible danger and away she flew.

This is my entry for Charlotte’s ‘Feathers on Friday’ challenge, and is also day #6 of my ‘7 Days of Nature’ challenge; thanks to Anna of ‘Una Vista Di San Fermo’ for inviting me to participate. If you would like to join in, just post a nature photo on seven consecutive days and link to my blog. You can also invite another blogger to take part.

I think the second photo might just qualify for Nancy’s Photo a Week  Challenge, ‘A Different Focus’, as I seem to have accidentally got the wildflowers more in focus than the bird.

Wishing you all a very happy and relaxing weekend.

Nature from my bathroom window!

A very timely visit for my 6th day of the ‘7 Days of Nature Challenge’. Looking out of my bathroom window yesterday afternoon, I thought I saw a smallish ‘dinosaur’ creeping towards the house. Maybe this is Iggy Jr’s dad or even his granddad. They’re not quite so cute when they get to be 6 feet long, are they? I took this shot through the glass then went outside to have a closer look.

As soon as he spotted me, he started off towards the water at quite a cracking pace.

He’d decided “Enough with the paparazzi already!” and quickly plopped into the lake.

Let Nature Bedazzle Us

Ailsa’s Travel Theme ‘Dazzling’ had me a bit stumped until I began to think of all the dazzling natural wonders in our amazing world.

What can be more bewitching than a dazzling Florida sky at sunset?

or a dazzling red Hibiscus flower?

A glimpse of shocking pink amongst the reeds is undoubtedly a dazzling sight,

as is an exquisitely beautiful waterlily.

Ms. Anhinga with the sun glinting on her golden wings is a dazzling spectacle indeed.

I think you will agree that nature is very hard to beat when it comes to the ability to dazzle the eye?

Mr. Peli and his entourage

For my fourth day of the ‘7 Days of Nature’ challenge, here is  shot of Mr. Peli and his cormorant entourage gliding past our previous house. I have to say that I do miss seeing the birds up so close now that we’ve moved, but at least I have a quite different and equally fascinating lot of creatures who visit me here.

Thanks to Anna  of ‘Una Vista Di San Fermo’ for nominating me to do this challenge. If you would like to join me, you just need to post a nature photo on seven consecutive days and link your post to mine.

Happy Tuesday to you all.

Mundane Monday: Keep calm and climb a palm

Not quite such a Mundane Monday here in West Palm. When I pulled up my bathroom blind this morning, I saw what I thought was a smallish brown dog running past my window, but when he turned his face towards me I realised it was actually a fox. He was closely followed by an otter about two feet long. Of course, before I could grab my camera, they were both long gone. As I once told you, each morning I never know who will be ‘on-stage’  when the curtain goes up. After that bit of excitement, I looked around to see if there was anyone else in sight, but no there was absolutely nothing to disturb the peaceful scene before my eyes;

No alligators, no iguanas, no mini-dinosaurs, no lizards, no squirrels; but wait…….what’s that right at the very top of the palm tree? There was Sammy enjoying an early breakfast whilst on lookout duty. This energetic little guy never stops except to eat. Don’t you think he’s looking quite rotund these days?

Have a great week everyone.

My Sunday Photo: Just Fluttering By

“Butterflies are not insects, they are self-propelled flowers.” ~ Robert A Heinlein

On Thursday the Queen’s 90th birthday, just next to the path by the gym was this beautiful ‘Monarch’ butterfly. She stayed just long enough for me to get an iPhone pic, whilst other gym members came scurrying by, not even curious to see what I was taking a photo of. You can miss so much beauty in nature if you don’t take the time to stop to look.

This is also my 2nd day of the ‘7 Days of Nature Challenge’. Thanks to Anna of Una Vista Di San Fermo, for nominating me to do this again.  If any of you nature lovers would also like to also join in, please do. I’m also linking this to Jude’s ‘Get a little closer’ Garden Photography Challenge.
