Wordless Wednesday: When I look into your eyes…

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an alligator in our pond, but this one at our local nature reserve had quite a hypnotic gaze.

Happy Wednesday to you all. Only six more sleeps until we fly off to Chile to join our Antarctic cruise.

Mundane Monday: In My Backyard

Jithin at Photrablogger’s ‘Mundane Monday Challenge‘ is to find “beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.” Maybe my everyday mundane things aren’t quite the same as yours, and I suppose when it comes to alligators, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Yesterday, Mr. A got brave and decided to climb out of the water and do a bit of sunbathing on the neighbour’s grass. He started out with his eyes open, on the alert to see if he’d been noticed by anyone. He seemed to be looking straight at me, probably sizing me up for breakfast. I think he fancies me!

After a while, he relaxed and snoozed a few hours away in the sunshine, until a sudden heavy downpour of rain woke him up.

He then slithered back into the water and had a little cruise around before returning to his lair, which I think must be somewhere along the edge of the golf course. I wouldn’t imagine that golfers here go fishing around in the water for lost golf balls.

Here’s a cute joke to make you smile this Monday morning. “Who gives alligators their Christmas presents? ……………”Santa Jaws!” 🙂

Have a great week everyone.

A Pre-dinner Alligator

Yesterday evening, just after I popped my salmon fillets into the oven, I happened to look out across the lake. The water level is quite low at the moment, and a ledge of rock has been exposed. A tri-coloured heron was standing looking down at the ledge, which seemed to have grown a few scales.

The lazily reclining alligator appeared to have grown quite a bit since I last saw him.

I stood watching him for a few minutes and then the oven pinged, so I went back inside to rescue the salmon before it overcooked. When I looked again two minutes later, Mr. A had disappeared.

I assumed he’d gone home for the night and I started to make the salad, but something told me to just have one more look out of the window. There he was again, and heading in my direction. When hubby arrived home from his renovating, he found me standing rather close to the edge of the lake, taking a few closeups.

This morning there’s no sign of him, but that doesn’t mean to say he’s not here. I’ll keep an eye out.

Wishing you all a splendid weekend, and very happy Easter or Passover if you are celebrating.

Cee’s FFC: Wondrous finds on an afternoon’s Nature Walk

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”~ John Muir

For Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week, I have a few pics of the amazing creatures I found on my walk in a Florida nature reserve. (Click on any image to enlarge.)

First up is is the undisputed King of the entire outfit sleeping the day away, oblivious to all his subjects who are going about their daily business, and the stares of us visitors to his kingdom.

It’s just another lazy afternoon for this most handsome of fellows, who just has to be the absolute ultimate in ‘Lounge Lizards’.

DSCN7545

I saw so many wonderful creatures in nature as I ambled around the boardwalks, and I also kept a look out for the lion which I’d spied on my last visit. He was still there, although I’m sure most visitors walked over him without noticing his cute face peering up at them.
