Remembering my Mom today

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”  ~ Elizabeth Stone

Some people deride the commercialisation of Mother’s Day, saying that if you show your love and appreciation every day, then there’s no need for a special ‘Mom’s Day’. For those mothers and their children who live far away from one another and have to make do most of the time with Skype calls and photos on Facebook or Instagram, I believe that this day is really wonderful. Of course I know that my son and daughter love me to bits every day of the year, but on Mother’s Day there’s an extra special bond of cherishing one another. It’s a celebration of being a mother and having a mother. This year as I walked through the store and saw all the lovely Mother’s Day cards on display. I was reminded that this year, I no longer have a mother to send a card to. Maybe the first year is the hardest, or more likely than not I’ll  feel the same sadness every year as Mom’s special day comes around. Mom and I had some really precious times together, so I will remember and celebrate the fact that I had this wonderful woman in my life for so long. My darling Mom, although you’re no longer here, I can still feel your love.

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.” ~ Unknown

Wishing you all and especially the Moms, a really great Sunday.
