The Turkey Vulture is usually seen soaring high in the sky, but this one happened to land in my back garden to have his photo taken.
Wishing you all a peaceful and safe weekend.

Great shot! I had one pose right up for me too a couple of weeks ago in a preservation area. I put it in my Bird Weekly post this week. https://oureyesopen.blog/2020/08/07/bird-weekly-photo-challenge-birds-of-prey/
What a beauty!!
I agree. π
Superb He comes to visit you in the grass
Turkey Vulture must be out exploring new lands and found yours. He must have been curious. He looked good for the camera π
Yes, he did pose very nicely. π
Unusual indeed… she probably got a message from other birdies about having her portrait taken!!!! π xoxo
Iβm sure the word has gotten around. Everybody wants to be famous on WP. π π
Oh, yes!!!! π€£ππππ
Hope it’s been a safe and peaceful one for you! We have plenty vultures buzzing over our valley in the summer. Don’t know where they go in winter. Perhaps they visit you?
Thanks, Gunta. Itβs been an uneventful and enjoyable weekend.
I love your visitors. When we stand still, the world comes to us.
Thanks, Rebecca. It does seem so. π€
It seems as though you have a welcome mat out in your back yard…another terrific capture. Thank goodness we dodged a bullet with the storm. It hasn’t gotten to us yet but it supposed to stay 10 miles off the coast.
Thanks, Karen. Yes, we’re very grateful Isaias passed us by.
And to you.
Thanks, Cynthia. π
a lovely visit, Sylvia. photo well taken! happy weekend! π
Thanks so much, dear Lola. π
We have them here, too. Amazing birds and so beautiful in flight.
Thanks, Lavinia. I was just reading through your new post and enjoying the your lovely guitar and voice. xx
Thank you, Sylvia! π
He looks like a mixture of turkey and vulture indeed. I like how he turned his head to look at this lady photographer π
Thanks, YC. He didn’t seem to mind me at all. π
Have a peaceful weekend yourself dear friend
Thanks so much, Eddie. A storm is coming. Stay safe.
How unusual! I can’t say I’ve heard of a Turkey Vulture, Sylvia… although they do seem to be ringing a hollow bell somewhere!
Thanks, Tom, for whom the bell tolls. π
Oh wow, that is a special visitor..
Yes, very different and special. π
The word has got around about your camera. π
Haha……..obviously he didn’t want to be left out. π
I have never seen a turkey vulture, this bird seems to have an amazing wing span. You sure do get unique visitors in your garden!
Thanks, Gerrie. Yes, their wing span is almost two metres, so very impressive.
Not as handsome as Mr GBH or some of your other visitors, but very imposing all the same.
Thanks, Carol. His feathers are amazing. π
Aren’t they an interesting sight? I’ve only seen them high above, often it seems when I am cycling up some terrible hill. I’m certain they are waiting to pounce at the sight of me. π
Great photo Sylvia and happy weekend wishes.
Thanks so much, Sue. I can imagine your feeling that way as you battle up that steep hill. π―
Stopping by for a little love! π
Well, I loved that he came by. π
One of our planet’s most productive cleaners. Fantastic photo of this turkey vulture, Sylvia. Really a treat to see so close up.
Thanks so much, Jet. Yes, it was a treat for me too. π
So special, Sylvia – well done taking his photo!
Thanks so much, Ann Christine.
Same to you, have a great weekend!
Thanks, Ute.
Wow, not as ugly as many other vultures! And another nice pat on your back for having a wildlife-friendly garden, Sylvia!
Thanks, Dries. Yes, I guess he was quite handsome for a vulture. π
Goodness…. Have a great weekend yourself, Sylvia
Indeed. π³ Thanks, Sue.
What a big guy! Never seen one so close. Thank you, Sylvia. Have a good weekend!
Thanks, Dana. Yes, he was huge. Fortunately he didnβt seem to realise I was there behind him. π
π
The same to you! π
Thanks, Lynette.
A special visit! Yep, usually they’re up high in the sky, hanging out on a branch in groups, or gathered around roadkill. This is a great pose and a great shot!
Thanks, Liesbet. I was lucky to see him out there in my backyard. Canβt say Iβve ever seen one before.
When I see these guys gathered on the side of the road…they scare me!
I think any more than one would have scared me too, Jill. π³
You sure got up close and personal π
Yes, I was lucky he didnβt seem to notice me creeping up on him. π
