Pull Up A Seat At The Beach

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now in its 43rd week and I’m really enjoying taking part in it.

I’ve chosen a few seats at the beach for this week. On a trip back home from Key West, we stopped for lunch at a beach restaurant in Islamarada. The grandchildren had fun playing on this swinging seat. Little Max swung it so hard that we had to rescue the salt and pepper pots.

These shady seats on the beach there also looked very inviting.

Back in Umhlanga, South Africa, a couple were enjoying sitting on one of the many benches, watching the waves and a lone fisherman.

Further along that same promenade, this guy didn’t look terribly comfortable lying on a hard wooden bench. Maybe he was working his abs.

Here’s a very rustic picnic spot on the beach in Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica.

Our resort in Phuket had a lovely balcony with seats and umbrellas overlooking the beach.

Pull Up A Seat And Admire The View

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now into its 40th week and seems to be gaining in popularity.

This week, I dug up some photos from my travels, the first of which was taken  in Puerto Montt, Chile. This larger than life statue is set on the boardwalk of a beautiful bay. I guess it’s supposed to be a loving couple looking out to sea,  but somehow it misses its mark as they both look really miserable.

Along the highway in Ambato, Ecuador, a stark-naked young lady was perched on what looked like a very uncomfortable seat, holding out flowers to the passing throng. She must have been about thirty feet high, so very hard to miss.

Costa Rica can get very colourful and here, the local police seemed to be taking it easy even though they weren’t actually sitting on the bench.

Also in Costa Rica was this beautifully decorated church with the seemingly obligatory hard wooden pews. I often wondered when I was a child, whether having such uncomfortable seating was some sort of penance for our sins.

Now here at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga, is a much more comfortable place to sit and meditate and it certainly has a view to die for.

I hope you’re all having a great week. Now that it’s autumn here in Florida I keep waiting for the weather to cool down, but it seems to be be taking its time about it.

Pull Up A Seat And Wait

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat’ challenge has come around again. When waiting for something to happen, I find that it’s always good to have somewhere to sit. After all, one never knows how long the wait is going to be.

One of our local restaurants in Umhlanga South Africa, obviously wants to make their customers feel like royalty if they have to wait for a table.

In Costa Rica we had these two beautifully-carved wooden benches to choose from whilst waiting for our river cruise.

I prefer hard suitcases rather than the canvas ones. Not only are they stronger to withstand the harsh manhandling they have to endure, but they also make a good seat whilst waiting for the taxi to the airport. We were embarking on a two month round-the-world trip and as you can see, I haven’t yet mastered the art of travelling light.

Happy weekend to you all.

A Photo A Week Challenge: Colourful

Nancy Merrill challenges us to post something really colourful for her ‘Photo A Week Challenge’.

I think this beautiful Monarch butterfly seen one day on my walk back down the path from the gym, qualifies.

IMG_9840

We can post more than one photo, so I found a couple more from my travels. This is me in Phuket. The guy hanging free with his legs around my waist?…………Well, I never did get his name, but he brought me safely down again. What was I thinking? 😯

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Not quite as adrenalin-pumping as the above experience, but exciting in its own way, is this colourful display of shoes in a New York store. Unfortunately, nothing I liked in my size.

Of course, sunsets are always good for a bit of colour and this one in Costa Rica was no exception.

Thursday’s Special: Three of a kind in San Jose

“Now you must be off. For you shall go to the ball.” ~ Fairy Godmother to Cinderella

This week, Paula invites us to share a photo showing ‘Three of a kind’.

In 2013  we started our tour of Costa Rica in the capital San José. It was already evening, so after booking into our hotel, we went for a walk around the immediate area. There wasn’t really much to see except a few car rental dealers and a couple of fast food outlets, but just happening to glance up at a lighted window above McDonalds and Taco Bell, I spotted something which was in sharp contrast to the dark and dingy street below.

DSCN5553

Well maybe like me you’re not going to any ball this weekend, but do have a great one anyway.

Floral Friday Fotos: One Day Orchid

This ‘One Day Orchid’ was peeping out at me on a rainy day hike in Costa Rica to see the elusive Arenal Volcano. The volcano wasn’t visible through the thick mist, but the beautiful orchid was reward enough for my efforts and my soaking wet hair. I was so happy that the orchid had chosen that day to flower and that I was there to see it.

Wishing you all a very happy weekend. I can’t believe it’s come around again so soon.
