“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
On Saturday night, we had a wonderful ‘Dancing With The Stars’ dinner cabaret show here at our club. Five amateur dancers from our community, who had each been given fifteen lessons at a local dance studio, danced with their instructors and were judged on their performance. The evening started off with a delicious cocktail reception, followed by a sumptuous three course dinner, whilst being entertained by the various dancers. The professionals were outstanding, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the gala evening.
What a thrilling selection of dance routines they performed for us.
We even had Fred Astaire himself, dancing to ‘Singing in the rain’.
Their obvious enthusiasm for their chosen profession was almost palpable.
The ladies’ dresses were absolutely gorgeous.
One of our neighbours was judged to be the winner, and although you can’t see here, he’d really gone to town, taking the challenge very seriously indeed. His bright white shirt with sparkles was open to the waist, and he’d not only been busy with the spray tan, but had even shaved his chest for the occasion.
My favourite to win was my good friend Alice who is a great grandma and the most effervescent woman you could wish to meet. She always has a smile on her face, and although in her late 80’s is exceptionally active, participating in Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Water Aerobics. She’s also a mean tennis player. Go Alice!
Just look at her radiant smile.
After all the dancing and prize-giving, there was still something to look forward to. A yummy dessert. What a perfect way to end the evening.
