One Word Sunday: Inspiration

Seen at an art exhibition last month, a sculpture made out of bullet shells, entitled “Love”  is by Federico Uribe. This artist, from Columbia where violence is part of daily life, now lives in the US where there is also an epidemic of gun violence.  Symbols of violence take on a whimsical nature in this artist’s hands as he creates wonderful animal sculptures from ammunition.

Pull Up A Seat In Johannesburg

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now on week 47 and I’ve found a few more seats from my travels.

At Johannesburg OR Tambo airport, Nelson Mandela can be found sitting on a bench as large as life.

A bit further along, Jack Daniels, whose premium Tennessee whiskey has become very popular in South Africa, also has his own bench.

On a visit to Johannesburg, our little granddaughter Sienna decided to join the flamboyant ‘cowch potato’ Daisy sitting on a bench reading the ‘Daily Mooews’

Pull Up A Seat Or Not

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now in its 44th week and I still have quite a few seat photos left.

This cute little Bolivian child on the Isla Del Sol, had a very natural seat on the dry sandy ground as she sat with her pet llama and alpaca, waiting for the tourists.

A quick hop across to Barcelona and here I am in Park Guell, taking a seat next to Gaudi’s amazing mosaic lizard fountain. This was long before our move to Florida where we now are inundated with real lizards and iguanas.

Speaking of mosaics, this beautiful bench was for sale at an arts and crafts centre in South Africa with the strange name ‘Piggly Wiggly’.

Of course, I knew where they’d stolen the name from, because on a road trip in 2008 from New Jersey down to Florida, I’d had my photo taken outside one in Charleston. In November the seats under the umbrellas didn’t seem very popular, but maybe in summer it was nice to sit out there.

Deserted green umbrella-shaded seats seemed to be quite the theme in Charleston, as we found at our resort where we stayed for a couple of nights.

Pull Up A Seat In The Park

XingfuMama’s ‘Pull Up A Seat Challenge’ is now at week 41 and still going strong.

Four years ago we were in Key West, when on our way to see the lighthouse, we spied these very life-like sculptures through the fence surrounding a small park. I really had to look twice to make sure that they weren’t real people.

A mother and daughter were enjoying an afternoon picnic, when it would appear that something caught their attention.

Maybe they were waiting for grandma to stop rummaging around in her purse and come over to join them.
