One Word Sunday: Wet

Debbie’s ‘One Word Sunday Challenge’ is Wet and who hasn’t got some photos featuring water?

Here is where I would really like to be at the moment, in Umhlanga sitting on a bench looking out at the Indian Ocean.

Here in Florida, there are many birds who enjoy getting wet, like Mr Peli.

Last spring we spotted a few wet baby alligators enjoying a swim.

If you want to see a serious amount of wetness, then go to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Although it’s neither the widest nor highest waterfall in the world, it still happens to be the world’s largest sheet of falling water, and you can’t get much wetter than that.

Hope you’re all having a great Sunday.

Feathers On Friday: Peri Shelters In Place

We’ve had four pelicans vacationing in the trees at the side of our lake for the winter. This week, we noticed that Peri was on his own. I think his three relatives had managed to get a flight back up north before the COVID-19 travel restrictions came into force. He must have decided to stay and enjoy the warmth of Florida for a while longer.

Now he pretty much has the lake with its abundant fish, all to himself.

I can almost see him smiling here as he frolics around practising take-offs

and landings.

For the moment, life is good and social distancing is no problem for him, as there isn’t much wildlife or even human activity around here at the moment. I feel as though we’re all holding our collective breath in unison, waiting for the next gripping episode.

Wishing you all a safe and peaceful weekend.

Is This The Same Guy?

This morning when I looked out of my window, I noticed one particular pelican sitting up in the trees and thought he looked rather familiar. I went in search of a painting I did a few years ago when I started taking art classes.

It was lurking in the back of my hall closet and sure enough, there he was.  He looks younger and a bit unfinished, but unmistakable don’t you think?

Happy Wednesday to you all.

A Wednesday Conversation

“Hey there! What’s up you guys?”

“Can’t talk now. We’re in the middle of a preening session.”

“I’ve got my beady eye on you all. It would be such a shame if you fell out of that tree.”

Great Egret says, “When I choose to rise above the drama, the view is wonderful and the way forward becomes clearer.”

Woody wood stork says, “I always strive to have balance in my life. I stay calm and grounded whilst being totally focused on my goals.”

Grandpa Igasho is looking a bit dishevelled and rather concerned as he keeps a watch out for human predators from his safe perch high up in the trees. His New Year resolution is to always stay one step ahead of the opposition because you never know what their next move will be.

Last up but most important, Perry and Penny pelican say, “Whatever the question, always remember that love is the answer.”

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to visit my blog. I appreciate you all and wish you a very happy, healthy and successful 2020.

Six Word Saturday: Penny And Perry Collect An Entourage.

Looks like Mrs Penny Pelican has flown in to join her mate Perry, now that he’s sorted out their digs for the winter.

On their way back upstream, they were accompanied by an entourage of birds. The Great Egret led the parade, whilst Mr GBH proudly ‘rode shotgun’. The ducks, paddling for all they were worth, brought up the rear. It was quite a show.

The tri-coloured heron just looked on in astonishment.

For Debbie’s ‘Six Word Saturday’. Apologies that the photos taken through my bathroom window, aren’t the sharpest.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Feathers On Friday: Mr. Peli Just Flew In

Mr Peli has just arrived to check out the lodging conditions for the winter season and I’m sure his friends aren’t far behind.

Looks like Grandpa Igasho will have to share his tree for a while. I hope they get along together.
