Feathers on Friday: What a red nose you have!

This Common Gallinule seen at our local wildlife reserve is quite conspicuous with hisΒ  red nose and forehead. His exceptionally long toes enable him to walk atop floating vegetation. As you can see, he has no lobes or webbing to help in swimming, but he is nevertheless a very good swimmer.

I just popped into my bathroom a few minutes ago, and looking out of the window, I counted nine Iguanas, two Squirrels, two Blue Jays, a Red-bellied Woodpecker and a Red Cardinal. No ‘Partridge In A Pear Tree’, though. πŸ™‚

Have a great weekend.

  1. You have such amazing wildlife, Sylvia. I always think of the song “Do do do looking out my back door” (or bathroom window) when I see your beautiful creatures πŸ˜€

  2. An amazing amount of wild life around you! I’m always surprised you have squirrels, to me they are such an English/Northern US animal. They make a great mix for your stories!

  3. That is amazing for this guy. If you did not tell that he is a good swimmer then I would not believe that from looking at his feet. I would argue up and down for that πŸ™‚

  4. What an amusing bird, Sylvia! πŸ™‚ That looks like he has a costume prop red nose! I like how you turned your tally of critters into a song, without the partridge in a pear tree. Are you prepared to purchase a pear tree to attract one? Lol πŸ˜€
